I'm a high school Junior at a public arts magnet in Texas. My class rank is 47/229 and my weighted gpa is 3.93. I will have taken 9 AP classes by the start of my Senior year, including AP Physics and AP Calculus. I also have a consistent upward trend on my high school UW GPA with an increasingly difficult course selection; Freshman year was a 3.74 (pre-ap biology, Algebra I, geography, and English I), Sophomore year was a 3.83(AP World History, pre-ap geometry, chemistry, French I, and English II), and Junior year so far has been a 3.89 (AP US History and Language, pre-ap physics, Algebra II, and French II) I am taking Trigonometry and College Algebra this summer. My academic courses for next year are AP Physics, AP Calculus, AP Psychology, AP Government, AP Economics, and AP Literature, and French III.

- Volunteering at a hospital- ongoing
- Participated in various cultural and artistic events as a volunteer for my school's Free Tibet Club
- (More of an accolade, but still worth mentioning) received my school's Student of the Month Award (1 boy and 1 girl are chosen from each grade per month) every year of high school, and received the Student of the Year Award my Freshman year and Junior year. (one boy and one girl is chosen out of every grade)

I'm interviewing in Williamsburg in July, so I'm quite nervous and excited! I visited WM this past Spring Break and am absolutely sure that I want to apply ED. I know that being an OOS applicant puts me at quite a significant disadvantage, but I'd appreciate any feedback. Thank you!

We have EXTREMELY similar stats, oddly enough. Our GPAs are identical, SAT within 30 points, and even many similar ECs. Congrats on Thespian Society btw, welcome to the family And actually, I plan on applying ED to W&M as well as an OOS male. I like to think I have decent chances, so I’d say the same for you! The interview will definitely help; I plan on doing one too. You have good SAT scores and ECs, I think your GPA may be the weakest part of your app but between junior year and your massive senior year schedule it will go up some, definitely. I think you have a good shot, but with that said, it’s a hard school to get into. Feel free to chance me back, by the way!

I do not normally recommend applying ED, but you would be the exception. I think your chances are better than most, and you obviously love William and Mary. So, GO FOR IT!

But also have a really workable backup plan. You still need to apply to another 5 or 6 colleges for regular decision. Make sure that all of those are colleges that you like. No need to apply to a school which you would be disappointed in attending. For what it is worth, few things cut down on interview jitters as much as knowing that you have good options.

If you do not already have a good list of backup schools, I can recommend the following:

Tulane University
Washington University in St. Louis
Colorado College
Kenyon College
Vanderbilt
Northwestern
Rice University (gotta have a Texas school on the list, right?)

I am thinking that Tulane might almost qualify as a safety for you; certainly a match. Probably same with Colorado College. But the rest are mostly high match or low reach.
