I am a White Male with no real intense or difficult background, I am very lucky. Both my parents have doctorates and are clinical psychologists who own their own business (just the two of them) and work together. My older brother attends Assumption College (MA) and is majoring in Psychology, I wish to break away from the "family business" and work on my own future. I fear my grades and scores are nowhere near high enough for what i need, even though I KNOW I am a better student then what my grades portray. I was in a bad state of mind through freshman and sophomore and did next to nothing as far as academic work. I feel if i apply myself i can be successful in any school environment, no matter the difficulty. Please help me decide on what I should do, and whether I should "give up" on some of these college aspirations.

I am also open to other college options if they are open to me, if anyone has any suggestions please say so.

Sorry but some of those GPAs are really low, but you have a good upward trend. I would say Tufts, BU, UCSB, and BC are definitely reaches. Check out some UMass schools, get those grades & scores up (also weak).

my Sat is currently an 1850 now, 590 reading, 620 math, 640 writing. I plan/hope to get around 2000 for my possible 3rd/final testing, and am going to take SAT IIs in literature and math II this week. I also am going to take the ACT, which could potentially be much better for me as there is no penalty for answering all the questions, which I have a habit for doing anyway (which hurt me on the SAT)

Just FYI, most colleges only really count parents (who attended the college as undergrads) as “legacies.” Silly, I know…

I’m sorry to say that your scores and GPA are too low for Tufts; they’re pretty selective now! I think you’d have the strongest chance at Northeastern. Also think about Suffolk and Emerson as low matches and BU as a high match. I’d put BC as a reach.

That being said, a strong essay and glowing recs could really show how amazing you are as a student and a person, so aim high!

That’s just my opinion; these are all terrific schools, and I’m sure you’d do great at any of them :)
