Chance for Brown and elsewheres?

Hey all, I am hoping to get into one (or more) of these top schools: Brown, Stanford, Cornell, Northwestern, ND, UChicago, Columbia. I realize many of these are reaches, but I really just want a general idea of where I stand. Thanks,

I go to a public high school in IN (urban, very diverse, very interesting) and have about 500 kids in my class. I am an IB diploma candidate currently. I am also an Asian male with no hooks whatsoever.

SAT: 2290 (800 M, 730 CR, 760 W)
GPA: 3.97 (8 of 460) lots of valedictorians...

Courseload: Consists of generic IB courseload but took AP World History freshman year and scored a 4. My IB scores aren't back yet but am fairly confident I did okay.

Awards:
Indiana Academy of Science Talent Search 1st place winner
2012 Boston AJAS (science conference) Indiana male delegate
other smaller things...

Extracurriculars:
Science Olympiad founder, captain [major commitment, led to a top 10 state finish in just two years as a program]

Recs should be solid.

What do you think?

Hmmm I might have to… yup. bump.
Plus I forgot to add SAT IIs so here ya go.
780 Lit | 780 Math II | 780 Physics (actually taken before starting physics in school oO)

ok, bump??

Looks solid. Good luck!

Thanks, I’ll need it. I’m worried I won’t really stand out though. I mean c’mon, Asian science + tennis kids are considered a dime a dozen. So, how much do you think this stereotyping would affect my application?

You’ve got impressive stats. I’d guess you’ll be accepted to at least 2 of the 7 schools listed, maybe 3 or 4. Good luck.

Anyone else for some feedback?

I would consider applying early to Cornell! You’d be a great candidate.

I was actually considering applying early to Brown. What do you think?

solid GPA and SAT, your Ec are awesome and demonstrate leadership by founding the club!
Given the competitive nature of all your school choices, i wouldnt give u any matches, BUT i would say all are low reaches for you, excpet for Columbia which i would put as a solid reach…
chance back!?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1527194-brandeis-chance-will-apply-ed-chance-back.html</a></p>

Brown ED: High Match/Low Reach (ivies, man…)
Stanford: Reach (I will never tell anyone that HYPSM are matches)
Cornell: Match
Northwestern: High Match
Notre Dame: Low Match; Safety if you’re Jewish by any chance (go us!)
Chicago: Low Reach
Columbia: Reach

Hope that helps. And by the way, when I say you’re a reach for those schools, you have a smaller “reach” to overcome than a lot of people applying to those schools have to do.

I think you have a good chance any where but it can be a crap shoot. I mean there’s not much more you could have done besides finding an organic cure to cancer …?? Congratz on being so accompished! Good Luck! Chance back…? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1529500-chances-duke.html</a></p>

Your SAT score is solid, as is your GPA. Your EC’s are probably your weakest link, unless you have some tennis accolades/ more math awards to divulge (to show recognition/skillzzzz). A lot of the EC’s you listed, like youth symphony and mock trial, don’t really show continuation, so they won’t help you (at least in my understanding).

The schools you listed are reaches, but you have a better chance than most.

We Asian guys have it tough, unfortunately, since there are so many similar applicants out there. Whatever, the case, I wish you undoubtedly the best of luck!

Wow, you’re actually pretty stacked with everything. You got a great chance at all. Cross your fingers.

OP: Whatever you do…do not apply to any school ED (binding)…you are competitive for all the schools listed…it will all depend on your ESSAYS and RECOMMENDATIONS…

…if you do get into a school like Brown ED…you will have to withdraw and forfeit all the other applications in the regular round…

…if you are going to apply to a school early…apply to a school with NON-BINDING early action from among your choices…it is the most strategic smart way to apply…if you do get in…you can choose to relax for the rest of the senior year or you can apply to all the other schools in regular round to see what other schools you can get into…hope this helps.

Thanks for all the input guys, if I forego applying to Brown ED, do you think I’ll have a good chance at a school of like caliber RD?

Yes! Just work on your essays now…it’s never too early…you don’t know how important ESSAYS are…they can make or break your application to all your schools…
