bump again :S

If i remember correctly rank is only “considered” at duke, so it’s not going to completely kill your application (we talked earlier about this in another thread!) I think you have good ec with sportswriting, chess, deca, and you seem to be really involved with that organization so good luck!!!

thanks buddy! last bump :P

id say your best chances are duke (ed) and cornell; you shouldnt have a problem getting into wash & michigan; but idk about the other publics

Duke ED is looking pretty good for you! Only problem is rank…if your school is REALLY competitive maybe they’ll over look it. being from WA state helps alot tho! g’luck.

Fairly good chance at all schools on your list. I feel that you’ll probably get in at Duke.

Duke (ED): Reach
Chicago RD: Reach

Northwestern, Cornell RD: Slight reach
UCB, UCLA, USC, NYU, Michigan: Good Chances

U Washington: Most likely IN

I like you for all your publics as well as USC and NYU, shouldn’t be too much of an issue. I also think you’re pretty good for Cornell, although it is by no means a guarantee. Now you start to get a little iffy at Duke, Chicago and Northwestern. I know people who go to both Chicago and Northwestern and you fall a bit short compared to them in terms of GPA and test scores. I went to the same high school as them and it was one of the best in Michigan. It sent probably almost 20 people a year to Ivies and near Ivies. We had 3 who are attending NU from last year and I know someone from my year who goes to Chicago now. The person who attends Chicago is an Asian, so are two of the people at NU. All of them had 3.9+ GPA, taking the most difficult courses my school had to offer and all of them took Calc 3 and 4 at Michigan as well. They also all had 35 on their ACT. Now I don’t their ECs were quite as impressive as yours but they were strong nonetheless. So I guess that can give you an idea of what a Northwestern and Chicago student looks like.

Good chances at Duke and Wash U. Very good chances at NYU USC, and Michigan. Toss up at all of the others.

Thanks for the insight anthonyx. I underachieved in high school, but I hope some of the intangibles can pull through for me.

Your ECs are great, your GPA is good and your SAT score is good as well. You’re a male Chinese though, which might hurt you, but asides from that, I don’t see why any college wouldn’t take you! Duke is a great school, and I imagine that you have a very good chance to get in.

Decent chancees at all of your schools, but consider what makes you special! A lot of Assian guys apply with similar if not better stats! What makes you better than them? Good luck :)
