Hi everyone,

I am a Chinese student who apply for Amherst’ ED. but after the october SAT came out I felt very bad.
here is my score.
SAT1: 2170 Reading:700 Math:770 Writing:700(I won’t take a second one, and I know this score is low %>_<%)
SAT 2 : Math 2: 800 Physcis:800 Chemistry:800
AP: Calculus BC:5 (AB subscore:5) Chemistry: 5 Physics C Mech:5 Physics C Electro&Magne:5 Macroeco:4 Microeco:5

my GRA is 94.6(unweighted) and rank 3% (but you know the score system in China is different with that in USA, so I think this may not be persuasive )

my activity: ad club, some academic programs, school magazine, school usher, online translation group, piano player, an extracurricular club, student union, class union.

and I have won several honors and awards, both national and provincial, but nothing especially remarkable.

My estimated FA is 30,000 dollars

I want to know my chance for Amhest because I really like this college.

2170 is a perfectly good score. Amherst’s middle 50% is 660-760 for all three sections I believe. Your test scores are not an issue.

Thanks for replying O(∩_∩)O~
I still have some doubts on my SAT1 score because there are so many students in China who can get score higher than mine.

Here is my essay topic:
I wrote conversions I’ve taken in my class monitor experience. In middle school, I was a despotic administrator. later I realized my fault and I changed my way of administration from despotism to democracy in high school. By telling this experience and my concern for the legal problem in China, I derived my goal of becoming a lawyer who speak for disadvantaged people.

I think this topic is a little bit cliche, but I did write what I want to tell the admission officers.

I’m not sure that Amherst is need-blind on internationals. That could hurt you. Your scores are fine.

Thanks for replying. According to Amherst’s website, it’s both need-blind for domestic and international students.

Amherst does claim to be need blind for International students as well.
Also, bindsgae, you could look at other needblind institutes like Dartmouth,MIT,Harvard

Thanks. Dartmouth and MIT are on my school list.
