I’m an international student and would like to know my chances for UCB Haas as a transfer student from Diablo Valley College.
I didn’t prepare anything on my 2nd semester finals and my scores dropped. First semester 3.8, second semester 3.5, but I’m sure I can push a 4.0 for upcoming terms (all UW btw)
Should I participate more in the student government? Take honor classes, join clubs? I’m an Indonesian student and many of my fellas got into UCB, so I guess I have a great shot in making it. Note that I’m not really considering any other schools other than USC Marshall, which is kinda too expensive tbh.
Any tips to make me a strong applicant? I can do around 3.8ish UW at the end of my semester at Diablo Valley College.
Student govnt, work part time, take more than the minimum load, take more than the minimum prereq e.g. third semester language. Have quantifiables ready for all your EC’s
Working part time matters though? I’m thinking about working at the library just to pay for my rent.
You asked what would make you a stronger applicant, of course you dont NEED to do anything, you could apply next Nov with just the pre reqs and 60 units done with absolutely nothing else and still be reviewed for admissions. But think about what working part time represents, the differences between applicants who work and those who dont, what it says about you as a student who works either out of need or want. You said you want to pay rent, great already you’re showing financial management skills, foresight, initiative. etc.
Decide for yourself what you’re going to do, but at the end of each day ask yourself did you do absolutely everything you could to make yourself as competitive as possible?
As an international student your fees at Berkeley will run at $55k per year.
The unis look at residency more closely than the CCs, so working anywhere with a visa, is limited by the government.
Maintaining a high GPA, participating in activities, also working will take 100% of my time. Should make a strong application though.
For all of you in Haas right now, how much do you pay a year? Including living cost. (I believe it is going to be 2 years in total)
