Chance for Harvard and Cornell

If I were you, here’s what I would have done:

Nonstop SAT practice. And I mean practice test after practice test… make sure to study a lot of vocab as well. Forget everything you know and just cram English and math for a few months.

If you want a chance at the kind of American success you’re aiming for… you only live once.

Yes, I’d do it in a heartbeat.

I waiting for the December sat results and I think I will reach 2000, and I will do more subjects on January. I hope those Will be better.

2000 doesn’t even approach the international competition level for these schools. Especially from a first-world country like Portugal.

Anyone?? Feedback…

Improve your SATs and you just may have a good chance ;)

I think you have a great chance. You don’t have great scores but it’s difficult to get high SATs… especially in CR if English isn’t your first language. Schools know that. However the fact that you only got a 600 in the Math SAT II won’t look good since they’ll probably consider math as a universal test. Good luck though! Your ECs will most likely make you look great in comparison to the other International Applicants.
I agree, pretty decent ECs, but I’ve seen better from US students who also have higher GPA and SAT scores and they don’t get in. I do see why you would apply to these schools, especially since the exact level of competition wouldn’t be as apparent to an international student.
1st - Being a finalist in the competition to qualify for Intel ISEF isn’t regarded as highly as you might think, I had friends who went and took 1st place in their category AT Intel ISEF and didn’t get into Harvard.
2nd - You really do need to get your SATI and SATII scores up. Being an international student isn’t an excuse, especially since I believe they offer the SAT in other languages, my friend Quan took it in both chinese and in english.

I think if you can bring your SAT up past 2100 you’ll be good there, since international applicants don’t necessarily need to be as good. Also, take the SATII in Math2, not Math1. They don’t really care about Math1, and Math2 isn’t much harder. It also means you wouldn’t have to send the Math1 score. Try to break 700 on Math2 (it’s got a big curve so it shouldn’t be that hard).
You have a shot, but you need to make some definite improvements first.

bump. Any more feedback??

If someone now writes that you’ll get in, would you believe them?

I don’t mean to be cruel, but I really can’t see someone (especially an international) getting into Harvard, Cornell, or any other tip top school with a 1700. I think even a legacy/recruited athlete would have trouble with those stats.

Are you a senior? If not, STUDY and retake the SAT. If you get it to 2200+, or maybe even 2100+, you’d have a shot thanks to those great ECs. If you are a senior, you could apply just to cover all your bases but MAKE SURE YOU HAVE OTHER, LESS COMPETITIVE SCHOOLS. You need matches and safeties. I’m sure CC could help you discover some if you need help. Good luck!

Why do you ask that waverly?

There is no way you are getting into Harvard with such bad SAT scores… Sorry, but you need a reality check…

That goes for Cornell too.

Your EC’s are spectacular, but with 1700 you won’t get into an ivy, you need a 2200+ score to have a real shot at them, retake them and see what happens. I wish you the best of luck.
