Teacher Rec: will be very good
Personal Essays: writing is my strong point, will spend a long time writing

I have a 4.0 for Junior year, but my rank was lowered because I went to Japan sophomore year which left me with only two credits (lowering my rank greatly). I hope the risk and the achievements I've made make up for this. I have experience in business which might help me? NYU Stern is my dream school, how do you think my chances are? I'm planning on applying ED I (Nov 1st deadline).

Please give me any advice! Thanks a lot!

Oh and I’m planning on majoring in finance

If you ED you are definitely in if you RD you have a good shot. Good luck!

thanks for your help!!
is there anyone else who has some advice?

nowadays NYU stern is as competitive as Harvard. i believe it is ranked 4th or 5th in the top business schools in the nation. i dont want to discourage you but it is going to be tough. your credentials though seems good enough to get accepted except for maybe your GPA/class rank. something that i was lacking was my activities and extracurriculars. how are yours?

Stern is competitive but not NEARLY as competitive as Harvard. Your SAT composite is average for Stern and your GPA is a bit below average. That being said, you do have a legitimate shot at getting in.

Anyone else?? Anything I need to do to make sure I can get in?

your stats are in the ballpoint- plus, you have a unique hands-on experience with international business- definitely make sure to place an emphasis on it, and you should be golden :)

Stern as tough as Harvard? hahaha

yeah i’ll definitely make sure to emphasize that. i’m working on those essays. haha
and I don’t think it’s as hard to get into as harvard. let’s not exaggerate things too much!
anyone else with their opinion?

thought we Sternies would like to say so, it is not as difficult to get into as harvard =D. It does, however, compete with the likes of other Ivies, such as Cornell, Brown, Dartmouth, and many other top 15 institutions for students, and routinely wins them over. I know a good amount of people who got HYPMS but went with Stern (myself included).

Anyways,
Are you looking for FA? You have a solid shot of getting in. The business experience will not help you out THAT much, namely because it is so hard to get they can’t really penalize others for not getting any so early on. It doesn’t hurt, either =] SAT Math is going to hurt you, as well as GPA and ranking. However, you will have an incredibly unique application, and although I do not think you are a shoe in, you are among some of the more competitive applications. I would not be surprised at all if you got in, write great essays and it is definitely within reach for ED.

Thanks for the advice. I will emphasize that on my essays. All I can say for sure is that my application will be unique. Anyone else have an opinion??

Hey! I’m a senior whose getting ready for college. Can you guys evaluate me and tell me your opinions on whether you think i can get into Stern or not? I’m debating over whether I should be doing Early Decision or not… would my chances be higher if I did?

Cumulative GPA: 3.45 (unweighted)
I take the IB diploma program, so I’m pretty sure my GPA would get weighted depending on the schools. I know my GPA isn’t the best, and this is my GPA so far from Junior year. If I go early, then this is what they would be seeing. If I apply normally, my GPA this semester I know would be higher, but then again the acceptance rate would go down if I apply with everyone else… right?

My GPA for Junior Year was 3.57 and 3.625

Are my chances okay? Do you think I will be able to get in? I’m hoping my admission essay, other activities and SAT scores make up for my GPA. I also attend an international school in Japan. Thanks for the help!
