chance for NYU?

Alrighty.. I want to apply as a transfer student to NYU's College of Arts and Sciences(East Asian Studies department).. Here's what I have:

Go ahead and laugh:
High School GPA: 2.89
No honors classes, GPA was 3.4 until my senior year, but that all was so long ago, I won't even go into it :P

Virginia All-State Cross Country
All Region Mile / 2 Mile Track (Indoor and Outdoor)

After High School:
Studied through the Army at Thomas Edision State College in NJ:
AM HIST 1 & 2 - B
AM GOV - A-
ENG COMP 1 & 2 - B+
Intro to Computers - A-

Studied Korean at the Defense Language Institute for 2 of 3 semesters
Final GPA: 3.89 - 36 Credit Hours
Withdrew 3rd Semester to take the Linguist Exam early and make my cut off date for a time-sensative assignment in Korea. Qualified as a 2+/2+/2+ Linguist (Near-Native Proficiency)

Attended Kyunghee University in Seoul for follow-on training in Interpretation/Translation 2 Months each year (Ungraded)

Work Experience:
Joined the Army for 8 years.
-Traveled to 14 different countries through work within Europe and East / Southeast Asia
-Volunteer English Teacher at an Orphanage for a year in Korea
-Created new Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures for Transition To War and Real World Operations at 2 Operational Intelligence Cells in Korea
-Tested, Fielded, and Troubleshot the introduction of new computer systems to the Korean Theater of Operations
-Specialized in Intelligence Operations within the Korean Penninsula and worked within that field for 6 years
-Decorated with numerous peace time awards/medals

There's more to this, but this should be enough to list here

I'm relying mostly on my work experience and my contributions to the army to get me in. My major relates closely to my work experience, and to me that's the most important part of my application. Additionally, my college scores are vastly improved from my High-School scores, when I cared little about what I was doing (young and stupid, right?)

So, think I have a shot a NYU?

I think if you could work out your experience and mix it with what NYU is looking for, you could very well have a chance. Considering that HS was so long ago, you're pretty non-traditional, so I'm having a hard time chancing you.

Why NYU though? Trust me, I love the school as much as anyone else, but the price range is just, expensive!

NYU has long been a school I've had my eye on for East Asian Studies.. Price isn't a concern for me, but the school is a good location to fit in with my other plans, in addition to having a robust enough program to be of interest to me. So many schools have such a weak EAS department that it's just a joke to consider them, and the places I'm aiming for working at after this know that fact very well. But above all, it's just a matter of preference. I just feel like I'm really reaching out far by wanting to attend NYU, and if I did, maybe I would feel like I've finally accomplished something that I wanted.

Fair enough. I honestly hope you can get in, and if I were to say something, it'd probably be a slight reach / match. I think your experiences can really put you above other applicants, but I wouldn't know how much your HS stuff weighs in.
