hey wts w/ the discrepancy btwn ur grades and ur ap scores?? at my school its like the opposite (ie ppl get 5s but Bs in the class…) otherwise im sure u know u have very solid stats that will most likely get u into at least one of those schools…just remember to keep ur options open :)

Stanford (Early Action) -haha me too! if we both get in that’d be SICK  are you planning on studying music while at stanford? I heard somewhere that it’s not to your benefit to send in a supplement if you’re not, anything you’ve heard of to back this up/reject this? also, if you don’t mind me asking, what pieces are you sending? anyways, if you live in ca, this is mid reach, otherwise high reach, for anyone. also, it might be better to take sats again and get higher scores and apply rd? thats also what im considering. sorry for rambling xD
Princeton reach-
Northwestern very low reach
Yale mid to low reach
Duke low reach
U. Chicago low reach
MIT high reach. from my school, every valedic. seems to get into MIT, but it is a much bigger class and your sat ii physics score makes this a high reach imo.
Vanderbilt you should get in EASY compared to others i know that got in
U. Penn. mid reach.

Thanks for the response.

I’ll admit my AP scores are a bit lacking, however I’ve taken over ten and passed all of them with at least a 3. Also, AP scores aren’t taken in to account in admissions, so that shouldn’t hurt my score. I don’t have as high of AP scores as I should because I’ve found it difficult to juggle studying for 5+ while maintaining As in all of those classes and extracurriculars. Guess it’s a trade off I had to make!

Your grades are fantastic. The things keeping you back seem to be test scores though. If you can raise your ACT (along with SAT IIs) you seem like you’d have a great shot at your reaches, especially Stanford if you go early. If you can’t improve the scores, (well even if you do) make sure to stand out in your essays because almost everyone who wants to go to Stanford has great stats.

NedNickerson: Yeah, that’d be awesome! We can only hope. Also, I’ve heard otherwise as my friend (who went to my highschool) applied REA to Stanford last year and told me that Stanford requires earlier submissions for applications with music supplements, which most likely means they do take them into account - also know that she didn’t apply/isn’t going into music. I may do music as a minor, or simply as an extracurricular - I plan on playing Vitali’s Chaconne and an excerpt from Meditation from Thais.

Yes I’ll be taking the SAT II Physics and ACT again, as I know those are the weakest part of my application. I’ll be taking them soon enough so that my new (hopefully better) scores will be available by the time I apply.

Patriotsfan1: Just as I expected, and yes, I’m trying to raise my ACT scores as well as my Physics SAT II this fall. I was extremely upset about my ACT scores because on the three practice (released) exams I took under normal conditions I received 34, 35, 35 overall. I have a bit of an anxiety problem so that’s what I’m attributing my 32 to. Hopefully I can overcome it next time I take them.

Just for anybody looking to chance Fluxed, I know him personally, and he’s planning on applying to the M&T program at Penn.

Anyway, I’m only posting for you here since this is more lasting than Facebook chat - you’re objectively qualified for these schools. I hope you make Siemens next year, that should be a nice feather in your cap, but I got into M&T without having any of the science fair stuff so I don’t see why you wouldn’t. Just write beastly essays, which you already knew.

jizz

about the ap scores…u know…ive heard both they count and they dont count…do u know for sure?

At a few college info sessions I’ve been told they hold no jurisdiction over your application, although I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt to have something like State AP Scholar under your belt.

Bump.Bump.Bump.

Good science achievement and leadership, well-roundedness. Though there isn’t much coherence. Academically, would be okay but ACT score is rather weak. Granted your ACT score goes up, you should be fine for your top choices. For M&T, numbers are particularly important so work on the SATs/ACT.

Thanks, dblazer. What do you mean by there isn’t much coherence, though? I thought I showed a pretty consistent trend through my interests but maybe I’m overlooking something :stuck_out_tongue: Could you elaborate?

And yes, as I said before, my ACTs are my weakest feature :frowning: Working on it!

Bumpin’ dat thread.
