I think your scores based on your schedule is great!
However, your extracurricular activities seem a bit
dry and boring. Maybe work on adding something
different from other students.

I think you are definitely competitive for all of those
schools though…just work on the activities

chance back? thanks =]

Geez, didn’t think it was possible to be taking so many AP classes. I can always rely on College Confidential to boost my self esteem… hahah. Anyway, I agree with CollegeBound. You’re GPA, SAT scores, and your academic courses look stellar. Also, the fact that you’ve taken additional online classes for Spanish shows a lot of commitment and hard work. But I have to admit, your extra curriculars are lacking a little.

You have to remember that Harvard/Yale/etc gets thousands of applications every year. You need to set yourself apart in some way. Maybe you’ll do that in your extra curriculars or in your application essay. Either way, you need to make sure you stand out. There are plenty of smart students that apply to these schools; There are also plenty of smart students that get rejected as well.

I’ll post it in a second but there’s this thread that has all the people that applied to Princeton and whether or not they got accepted or rejected… you should look at it. It’s a dose of reality.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/princeton-university/675655-official-princeton-class-2013-decisions-thread.html</a></p>

Chance back please =)

Duke is a reach for everyone, Emory is probably a match, you pretty much chanced yourself already lol.

Dude… Is even possible to take all those AP classes? At my school that is impossible?!?

Thanks for responses. My school has no cap on number of AP Classes.

I recognize that my ECs could probably do some work but Odyssey of the Mind and Drum Major are really things i have spent a lot of time, passion, and energy into… like you said it’ll probably become more apparent in the essay…

hearbr8cker124 i can’t find your thread :</p>

OK. At my school you are only allowed to take 4 AP classes throughout your whole high school career. BUT, anyways, I think you have a very good shot at all of the schools on your list. However, your extracurriculars are a little bit lacking for the schools you are aiming for.

Please chance back. My thread is “Really nervous junior”

Your course load and GPA are phenomenal. Well done. Your SAT could stand to go up a little for Duke but I think Emory is a good match. Your safeties are no brainers and your reaches are reaches for everyone. You have set your self up very well.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1141736-unc-umich-ucla-more.html</a></p>

If you get your SAT to the 2300 you are aiming for, i would say you have a good shot. Make sure you are clear on how much time you spend doing drum and OotM. I would not put you into Yale. Upenn i would say you are maybe in. Duke is a high match, emory you are in (and should apply for merit scholarship too).

Chance me back?

Thanks all for responses.

I too SAT Subject Tests today and that went well.

Yeah i think even if i get up to 2250 i’ll be in a lot better shape

Felt like i did poorly right after i took SAT Writing and botched the essay up so… we shall see on my next attempt :P

Match:
Duke (40%)
Emory (90%)

Reach:

IMO, you are a great candidate for every school. Although your EC’s are not the most excellent, there are many people with worse ECs. I think you are fine, but as with everyone on here, Ivie’s are chance. maybe you should try some less popular schools. I see Brown and Cornell aren’t on your list, and they both have slightly better acceptance rates among ivies. I would also add some non-ivies, northwestern, wash U, georgetown etc. because you never know what harvard and princeton will say. You have a great chance of getting in, but as any Ivy, even the best candidate can find a reject letter.

Btw, I see you are taking AP music theory which I want to take next year, and I was wondering how you feel about that class. Is it difficult (or at least how much prior knowledge do you need)? I do play an instrument (guitar) and know scales and basic composition but I’m not sure if thats enough for music theory. I’ve heard from someone before that you need near-perfect pitch (which I DO NOT have) so I was wondering how you feel about that class.

Realistically, I see you getting into UF, UCF, and one of either Duke or Emory.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1144104-chances-please-thank-you.html</a></p>

vcelts123, it is hard for me to say honestly. I’ve had over 10 years of musical training on piano and i was also a member of a children’s chorus when i was younger… for me the entire course was a joke pretty much.

For the rest of society, i think if you have any sort of musical background and are interested in expanding your knowledge you should take it if you like. There were a few kids in my class who had a limited musical background and most likely achieved on the exam. One kid had never played an instrument before and i’m confident he got at least a 4 on the exam.

You definitely don’t need “perfect pitch” but you will need to be able to hear intervals, something which can be taught and learned.

I found it pretty interesting and i’d recommend it.

bump bump bump

You have good academic stats but weak EC’s, so I think those are all reaches for you, with Yale/Princeton/Harvard being high reaches… still, apply there, you never know.

What i mean is, your chances there are not very high.

thanks. bump (10 char)

You GPA is amazing. Truly. If you bring up that writing SAT in october (I know you can do it based on your AP scores) you’re totally set for HYPSM. Your application is much, much better than mine, which i posted up earlier. You’ll have no problem getting in.

HYPSM are high reaches because your ECs are a bit lacking. You should be all set for the others.
