Chance for Stanford, USC, UC Santa Barbara, and Berkeley? Urgent!

I’m a current Junior
I’m in the top 10.6%
I have a GPA or 11.67 which translates to a 4.0
I’m a member of the NHS, Environmental Club, Drama Club, and the Improv group
I’m Vice President of AVID Club, I was recently wlected as President of Key Club for next year, and I’m the current Treasurer of Spanish Club
I’ve taken AP Spanish and scored a 5, AP World History and scored a 3
I’mcurrently taking AP US History, AP English, and AP Environmental Science,
I have an ACT Composite of 24 and I’m waiting for my SAT score

What are my chances?

I was going to say you have a decent shot till I saw your ACT score. I would definitely suggest you to work on your standardized scores, but you are on the right track for everything else!

Good luck!

First of all, in no way is this urgent. Secondly, you should definitely reevaluate your schools. It’s very unlikely your SAT will be much higher. Your best option is some serious test prep. I’m talking like Private Tutor. UC Santa Barbara might be a good fit.

Agree with the poster above, it doesn’t seem like an urgent request and is misleading to include that in the title.

ACT is low - compare it to the schools’ 50th percentiles to see where you stand. Add some safeties and matches to your list.

Are you in state for CA? I think you need some more target/safety choices.

Why is this urgent?

Have you thought at all about finances? Those schools give very different aid packages.

Did you mean 34 ACT? Recheck that and you have a shot. Otherwise you have to be URM and have some life challenge situations that might help you i.e. reared by single parent etc??

If ACT is really 24, you need to retake or your chances will be very slim at all these schools.

Unfortunately, the chances of raising a 24 ACT to the level at which the OP would be competitive at any of the headlined colleges are very, very slim. Also, OP, at the risk of sounding harsh, I have to say that labeling this thread as “urgent” suggests that you lack the maturity that selective colleges might seek from their applicants.

You might have a shot at UCSB as it’s much easier to get into

However, you have very low chances at Berkeley, USC and Stanford

Good job getting a great GPA! While I’m not that familiar with the UC schools, I have definitely done extensive research on the Stanford admissions process. From my experience, I would say that even though you have a lot of amazing leadership positions, they definitely don’t stand out to a school with an acceptance rate of 4%. My advice would be to narrow your leadership positions and become more “angular”, as admissions officers like to say. If you put all of your energy into one or two of these clubs and come up with some creative ideas, you’ll likely stand out among a competitive group of applicants. I would DEFINITELY try to take more AP courses if your school offers them. For admission to Stanford, you’re pretty much expected to take as many AP courses as you possibly can. However, if your school doesn’t offer them, you are not at a disadvantage. Lastly, for a school like Stanford, I would say to get your ACT score up. Although 12% of the class of 2019 had an ACT score of 24-29, your application will definitely be more competitive with a score in the 30s (preferably 33 or higher). My best advice I would give you is this summer to sit down with an ACT prep book and study every day and take the ACT again in the fall. If you study constantly, I promise you will do well (I started at a 23 and am now at a 32, going to prep all summer to try to get a perfect). You seem like a strong applicant! Good luck!

This might help to raise that ACT score, also try taking the SAT.

Top 10.6 but ACT score is so low? There is some GPA boosting going on here.
