I am a rising sophomore at a top 40 liberal arts college in ny. I'm not really enjoying my time at my current school for a number of reasons, but I will try not to make this thread about that. As far as my background is concerned, I am a lower middle to middle/middle class Caucasian, (and am technically Hispanic) male from northern New Jersey. I attended a pretty pedestrian catholic high school. I was drawn to Hamilton because of its strong tradition of excellence in writing, its open curriculum, and its academic pedigree amongst other things. I realize that transferring into a school like Hamilton will be difficult, but I have noticed that Hamilton's transfer acceptance rate is rather high for an elite liberal arts college which gives me hope in regards to my chances of getting in. I would be applying to transfer at the end of my sophomore year, and am planning to matriculate on campus as a junior.

In high school I was a honors student for all four years, I received a 4 on all three of my AP tests, and almost exclusively took advanced courses. I was a member of the varsity soccer team, as well as the volleyball and tennis teams for a brief period of time (before those last two teams disbanded). I have volunteered as a soccer coach, an after school aid, a salvation army store worker, and a retirement home helper. I was a member of the gold key club, Italian club, Italian honor society, O ambassador's club, prom committee, and paranormal activities club. I finished just inside the top 10% of my high school class with a gpa of around a 3.8.

My Sat score was only a 1900, I did not do to well on math, but the Hamilton college transfer website says that the importance of one's high school record is weighted less the longer a student is in college so I hope that helps me in that respect. I took two Sat subject tests and received as score of 660 on both I believe.

In college I am a current political science major looking to pursue either neuroscience or environmental science and policy as a minor. I have a gpa of a 3.45 which I realize is not ideal, but I switched my major three times in one year and tried a wide range of courses which I suppose in part can explain away that number. My school is also known for having a low average gpa and for grading rather difficultly. I am a member of the big brother big sister program, the club soccer team, I played intramural basketball, I work on campus through the federal work study program, and I attempted to organize a concert on campus although it was unsuccessful due to lack of funding. This coming year I hope to be a campus tour guide, qualify for the political science honor society, and to secure a political science internship.

I realize this post is rather lengthy and verbose, so I do appreciate anyone who is willing to read though this in its entirety and give me a thoughtful response. Thank you for your time.
