Chance for UC colleges (Special Case!!!)

I wanted to ask if UC colleges (especially Berkeley, LA and Davis) will at least consider accepting me, based on my current situation:

So I came from India just this year (my junior year). Because of this, I wasn't allowed to take any Honors classes this year, and the few AP classes (Psych and USH) I could take (that were available, at least) were ones I felt I would surely do bad in, so I only took 1 AP class this year (AP Statistics). (<= Will I have to tell colleges that I couldn't take any Honors classes?) Also, because of this, I don't have many volunteering hours (probably 30 so far) and I don't have any opportunities to volunteer anywhere during this summer. The 30 I got were from Math tutoring at my school, and around 4 hours for volunteering in the book room at my school. (<= Will I have to tell them why I have so less hours as well?)

Here are the courses I have taken so far and plan to take. The first grade means the grade I got the first semester, the second grade is the grade I got second semester.

Junior Year/11th grade:
AP Statistics - B-/A
Physics - B+/A-
Digital Imaging - A/A
English 11 - A/A
U.S. History - A/A
Pre-calculus - A/A

UW GPA 1st semester: 3.667; UW GPA 2nd semester: 4.000

Senior Year/12th grade:
AP Calculus
AP Physics
AP Government/AP Economics
Digital Imaging 2
English 12
Health/P.E.

SAT Reasoning Test Scores:
2070 (First try)
2140 (Second try)

SAT Subject Tests:
Math Level 2 - 780
Physics - Have yet to take, but am confident will do excellent.

AP score(s):
AP Statistics - 5

I was on my high school's JV badminton team. I am a California resident, and I am a permanent resident of the U.S.

Thank you so much for your time (and sorry if this is too long)! I'll be glad to chance you back!

I’m pretty sure you could get into Davis with no problem. When you go to two different schools I believe it means two separate transcripts that you will have to send in? So the admissions officers will probably look into the rigor of both. I don’t think you need to explain the lack of APs. Berkeley and LA seem within your reach. I would work on your ECs.

Yeah, I’ll have to send two different transcripts to them. I want to explain the lack of Honors classes, not AP, since I was denied any Honors classes this year because I had come from India. I guess I’ll also have to explain the lack of ECs since I didn’t get a chance to do much over the school year and nothing over the summer. I might do a bit at the beginning of next year though. Thanks for chancing me! :)

Davis pretty much only looks at grades and yours are pretty good. There is a point system online you could always use for any uc…i tihink avergae at least for our school was high 7000’s to get into Berkeley…you have a good chance but for la and berkely…make sure your essays shine so add whatever you can about you moving or something
are you in state?

Yeah, I’m in-state.

I think that based on everything you have a pretty good chance almost anywhere. Plus, you’ve set yourself apart by coming from India. I don’t know much about the colleges in California (I live in NC), but it seems that you’d have a well-rounded application, good luck!

Oh my god, I’m in the same situation too!!
I started school in America junior year and I’m a rising senior too
Finally I found someone like me
Well here are my classes:
French 4 Honors: B (5 credits)
AP Calculus AB : A (6 credits)
AP US History : B (6 credits)
English semester honors: B (5 credits)
Human Anatomy and PHysiology : A (6 credits)
Independent Study : Pass (5 credits)
and my GPA sucks at like 3.5
hopefully I can get that up
my sat II’s are math II : 800 and Bio-M: 780
I got 2110 on my firsrt SAT w/o studying and I have been getting perfect scores in the blue book so maybe 2300 on the october SAT

what did your guidance counselor say about your indina grades for GPA?
I’m really worried about my GPA

PS I already said this, but I’m so happy I found someone in the same situation as me :D

BTW I came from ANdhra Pradesh, where did you come from?

hahaha yeah feels great to know someone in the same situation as you
My counselor just gave me a “Pass” grade for the stuff I did in India, no grades on my transcript for those years. You’ll have to ask your counselor about that though, since I’m pretty sure it’s going to be dependent on the high school you go to as to what they do about it.
I came from Maharashtra. Are you in California or some other state?

quiet old new jersey :(

Actually I think you’re a well-rounded candidate. You could explain your situation though so they have an understanding.

You have a pretty good chance where you stand right now, but you can make it a great chance. First, you really need to explain to the adcom. about your truly unique circumstance, probably through the essay. Second, you need to be really active and involved your senior year to show the school you’ll be a true asset. Third, if you have time, visit the schools or write letters to them, to show your strong interest. Thank you for chancing me and best of luck!

Weak candidate for Berkeley. But apply. You wouldn’t know.

(didn’t read any of the other comments so sorry if it’s repetitive but) imo ECs are kind of… not there, and even tho it’s kind of “late” to develop an EC, be “strategic” with your essays. Ie, what can you bring to x university? Just looking at the data set objectively, all you get is a student who moved recently.

Davis looks like a match, LA and Berkeley seem like a reach/high reach respectively. But I’m just basing this off the people I know who got accepted/rejected to Davis/LA/Berkeley

Good SAT Scores!
UCLA and Berkley- Reach
Davis- Match

Oh wait, I forgot to mention I was part of the Math Club. I’m just a member though, never really showed up :stuck_out_tongue:
Can I still list it on the application though? Since I was technically a member and all…

Make sure you get good SAT scores and you will have a shot. GPA is lacking but your background makes up for it.

Check your PM box, kinetixs.

i think you have a shot at all of them. Just write one of your essays about the long and painful experience of people telling you what you can and cannot do. Essays are the main factor, good luck

mention your background in your essay; good test scores

what’s your weighted UC GPA?

^I don’t know what my UC GPA is, because my 9th and 10th grade transcript is from India, while my 11th and 12th grade transcript is from the U.S., so I have no idea how to calculate it.
