Planned major: Computer Science

Please chance me for:
Harvey Mudd
UChicago
Brown
Yale
Swarthmore
UCLA
Brandeis

Obviously the Ivys and others are reaches... please help me figure out exactly how high or low of reaches they are. Thanks!

I’m not too confident chancing you for Harvey Mudd, Swarthmore, or Brandeis.

UChicago - I would say that you’re a slightly above average applicant for them. Make sure your essays are very creative and unique - I’d say you have a 70/30 shot.

Brown and Yale would both be reaches. Your test scores are in range but most acceptances to Ivies have 3 pages of extracurriculars and extensive research/volunteer experience. However, a few good recs and a stellar interview can do wonders. I would say a 20/80 shot for those but it’s definitely not impossible!

UCLA seems very plausible. A solid essay would most likely get you an acceptance. 80/20 for UCLA.

^^ If OP is a slightly above-average applicant for UChicago, then OP will probably be put in the auto-reject file, considering that UChicago’s acceptance rate is 8.8%.

Harvey Mudd - High Match
UChicago - Reach
Brown - Low Reach
Yale - Reach
Swarthmore - Low Reach
UCLA - Low Match
Brandeis - Safety

The fact that you have two 800 SAT’s, both math oriented, is a good sign for Harvey Mudd.

UChicago- Match / Crapshoot (I know a girl with a 34 ACT who was denied this year… not even waitlisted.)
Brown- Match (you’ll probably get in.)
Yale- Match / Crapshoot
Swarthmore- Match (they rely heavily on test scores)
UCLA- Low Match
Brandeis- Safety

Great test scores and extracurriculars from what I can see. GPA will hurt you a little bit but you have other things to cover for it. But yeah you know these are selective schools so be prepared for anything

UChicago - high match
Brown - reach
Yale- high reach
UCLA - match
sorry don’t know much about harvey mudd or swarthmore.

I don’t know about Swarthmore or Brandeis, but these are my opinions! Also, I think you’re there for the Ivy’s, but there is just so much competition for them that anything is unexpected!
Harvey Mudd - High Match
UChicago - Reach
Brown - Low Reach
Yale - Reach
UCLA - Low Match

You should also look into Berkeley, if you haven’t already.

to be honest your extracurriculars alone do not show much of a focus in computer science and a lot of students applying to the big schools will have those kinds of ECs. how do you stand out? (as a fellow prospective CS major)

at this point i’d say the Ivies are as reachy as for the average applicant with good grades/scores/fairly good ECs
Harvey Mudd - reach
UChicago - reach
Brown - reach
Yale - reach
Swarthmore - low reach/high match
UCLA - low reach/high match
Brandeis - match

Thank you everyone! I’ll try to chance you all back.

It won’t let me edit this thread, so I’m just going to add here that one of my recs will be stellar (once in a career student sort of thing) and my other will be great.

I think you have a good shot at ivies =D you test scores are great!!
Harvey Mudd: match
UChicago: mid reach
Brown: mid reach
Yale: reach
UCLA: low match
Brandeis: match
