I don’t get how your weighted GPA can be so much higher than your unweighted with only one honors and one AP course. Also, unless your school doesn’t offer many AP courses, it doesn’t sound like you have challenged yourself as much as you could have in this regard. Schools like to see that, especially the top tier ones.

Telling you chances is rather useless, but it is safe to say that you are likely to get into at least a couple of the schools you list. Strongly advise you apply to a true safety though. Are finances an issue?

My school does offer plenty of AP/Honors, but I attend a very difficult public school in Mass… I’m sure you hear this every day, but teachers are stingy with their A’s around here. Nobody has had a 4.0 for as long as I’ve been here (school of 2000).

I can’t explain the weighting, that’s just how it goes at our school. No financial aid needed.

None of these are really safeties here, I consider Miami the closest to one, but I have separate safety schools. These are sort of top choices, matches and reaches IMO. Safeties would include Miami Ohio, U MA Amherst, Purdue, and I like to think UMiami.

Thanks for your response.

yeah i think ull be fine for umiami
and a fit/slight reach for BU
and im not sure about USC i think that’d be a low reach

OK, that’s good info. Does your school rank? If they grade everyone hard, it should show up there. In any case, I think you have a good balance of schools. Your GPA might be fine, it is hard to tell since if you rank in top 10% for example then a 3.56 holds up nicely. As I said, I think the thing that might keep you out of the top schools is that you didn’t take many AP’s. They really look for this, so you might want to address it somehow. Maybe one of your rec’s can talk to it, or your essay. I dunno, tough thing to make up for now. But I would certainly still apply to all those schools. Your SAT scores are excellent, that will help.

Disagree slightly with sophy, BU and Miami have almost identical average admission stats so you should have roughly equal chances at either, which is to say fairly good. Depends on how much they weigh the stats vs. the lack of AP’s. GW about the same as these two also, maybe just a touch more selective. Tulane would be next hardest, then USC and finally Vandy. But it isn’t ridiculous for you to apply to any of them at all, certainly you have a shot.

Tulane might be a bit harder than normal this year. They had a big freshman class of 1630, their goal is 1500. Since they require living on campus for 2 years, there is a dorm issue if they had another class that big or even close. So the president has announced they will shoot for a class of only 1400 this year.

Wow that’s really unfortunate to hear about Tulane, it’s one of my top choices. I plan to apply EA to Tulane, so hopefully that will help. Thanks a lot though, that’s probably as helpful a response as I’ve seen.

buuumpppppppppppppppppp
