-If i hypothetically were to be named a siemens or intel semi finalist/finalist, would this guarantee a scholarship ?

Of course not. The Morehead Cain is EXTREMELY competitive and the selection process is extremely rigorous and is much much more than placing in a science competitoin. Yes, becoming a semifinalist or finalist (which is a huge achievement in itself) definitely helps you, but you need the WHOLE package to win the morehead cain: Grades, test scores, achievement, passion, leadership, character, etc.

How many of entering freshmen win the morehead cain?

Only 3 percent of all applicants receive the scholarship.

The criteria is as follows and proves that you can’t receive it solely off of Siemens/Isef/Intel. Be ready to push yourself through grueling physical challenges as well.

Moral Force of Character
Leadership
Physical Vigor
Scholarship

The way I do the math, I’m getting that around .6% of accepted students get the Morehead. The website says there are fifty scholars, and by my math UNC accepted about 7600 students, so it’s pretty darn competitive!
Plus, since you’re not a North Carolinian, you can’t self-nominate, so you either have to go to a nominating school (there’s a list on the website) or apply by Oct 15 and be awesome enough to have your app passed on by admissions. From the few Morehead scholars I know personally, I think they’re looking more for a student body prez type than the science focused stuff that I see you have, so the scholarship might not be a great fit for you. There are other scholarships at Carolina besides the Morehead, so look into the Robertson and Carolina Scholarship programs as well.
Frankly, though, I’m instate with similar-ish, maybe slightly higher, stats and I certainly don’t feel like I’m guaranteed any merit money at Carolina. As I’m sure you know, the admissions process is super competitive for out of state kids, so you might want to rethink things if you have Carolina as your safety right now.

You make a good point bekahshoemake! I like U Delaware as well
