Ok, I get that my GPA was very poor in the first year (and possibly second). Will the competitive nature of my school and my other credentials (like SATs, APs and ECs) help me cover that? Will really appreciate your opinions, whether they are harsh or encouraging :)

I'll chance back if requested!

Mbprox, your SAT’s and AP scores are great and very competitive. When you say SAT 2370, was that in one sitting (the 2nd sitting) or is that your superscore (sum of the hightest in each of the 3 areas)? Either way, it is good. As far as your GPA, the colleges do usually look at a cumulative GPA over all 4 years, although certainly an upward trend (as you have) helps. What is your cumulative GPA? And don’t worry about the cutting words of bieberlicious. CC is supposed to be a place where parents and students can be supportive and share information, NOT a place where people offend others with racits statements–so sorry you had to read those (speaking as someone whose child is half-Asian).

Jennieling, thanks for the reply! Yup the 2370 was in a single sitting. As for GPA, grading system here is a bit different from America’s - we get A,B,C…Fs and a percentile of our performance against the cohort’s, so I guess I wouldn’t have a ‘combined GPA’.

Wow. If you can keep up with that sort of curriculum and still have solid ECs I’d say you are highly competitive for all. I’d like to say match for UCB and Dartmouth and I can see you getting into at least one between Yale/Col/UChic/Wharton. Best of luck to you!

Congratulations. You’re in. To seal the deal, make sure you show that you will add value to the places you apply, and that you are more than a file of perfect scores.

Wow! Your stats are amazing and frankly, I’m jealous. If your school does send over 100 kids per year to the Ivies, I do not see why wouldn’t get accepted into at least one of the schools you mentioned, plus UCB. U Chicago is a match for you (at least in my opinion). Keep up the good work!

Chance me back? “Can I get into my dream school?”

First, the good news: most of your application looks great! The bad news: your GPA/rank is really bad. That’s going to mean different things to different colleges; some will let it slide, while others will see it as a definite no. I think UChicago is a good choice, but have you considered Brown?

Hi guys - thanks for all the comments! Yeah I know my GPA is pretty bad, but will the obvious upward trend, as well as the highly competitive nature of my school, be enough to persuade colleges that I’ve been doing something about it?

@ DiscipulusBonus I haven’t really considered Brown before - not that I don’t think it’s a good school or anything it just wasn’t in my radar - is there any compelling reason why I should consider it? Thanks!

How did you get a 730 on your SAT Chinese if you’ve lived in singapore for 8 years?
