Hello! I am rising senior doing IB programme. I am looking forward to apply to UBC Electrical Engineering program. My IB Courseload: Math HL (6), Physics HL (6), English B HL (7), Computer Science SL (5), ITGS SL (6), Russian A SL (7). Overall predicted 40/45. However, I don’t have IB Chemistry
SAT: 1500/1600
SAT II: Math II 800, Physics 770, Chemistry 700
However, I have Chemistry SAT Subject Test. Is it ok that I don’t have IB Chemistry? Will it hurt my chances to get in and get International Scholarship?
Did you take any non-IB chemistry in high school? If you had 2 years of chemistry you’ll be fine.
1st year engineering is a standardized course schedule so they don’t have flexibility to accommodate students who lack the prereqs for all the required courses. The prereq for freshman chem for engineers is grade 12 chemistry, and they would have to make an exception for you to test into that class if you don’t have the prereq.
You can transfer into engineering after 1 year in science or another program if your GPA is high enough. You just need to make your schedule match the engineering one as closely as possible to take all the required courses. Your high school grades look good, but you still need to have 1 year chemistry for science.
In your application, you get to rank order a few degree programs you’re interested in. They will consider you for all the degree programs you choose.
