Chance low GPA with near perfect SAT score

Throughout my educational career, I went to a weak public school district. I was always that kid who had a 3.6-3.7ish GPA. A month after my freshman year of high school, I moved to a richer suburb and went to a college preparatory high school. The workload and competition was much more intense than I had imagined. I feel that my next huge transition in education (college) will be much better and I will be prepared. Anyway in my sophomore year, my GPA dropped to a 3.2 and my class rank was in the 45th percentile. Ouch :( For my junior year, I tried to get my act together. I took mostly AP classes and had a 3.8W (school does not unweight). This isn't exactly impressive since it's a weighted GPA. My class rank was OK in the 70th percentile. But I feel that I'm a much harder working student now.

Despite all of this, I scored a 2350 on the SAT! Not perfect but at least I'm proud of myself for once. I'm interested in the top 30 ranked colleges so I could work as an investment banker. In the banking industry, you're expected to go to a top university or else you will have a very slim chance of getting into the industry. Do I even have a chance at going to a top 30 uni given my low GPA and class rank?

Also, I am NOT lazy. One of my teachers was making fun of me and calling me lazy for having a low GPA. Taking 5 AP classes while being the President of two big clubs and living with violent fighting parents is not easy.

My hooks: Varsity Track & Field athlete, low income, first generation college student

You definitely have a chance at some of the great schools. You probably won’t get into Ivies, as your GPA is low. Great essays and recommendations, scores, and EC’s are all factors.

You can go to University of Mimai. Its ranked #45 on USNews but it is an excellent school. :D
