Chance/Match an international rising senior for T20s Biochemical engineering!

Demographics

  • international student
  • really small private school
  • Asian female

Intended Major(s)
Chemical engineering, biology engineering, materials engineering

GPA, Rank, and Test Scores

  • Unweighted HS GPA: don’t know yet, predicting at least 3.95/4.0 and I’m pretty confident that I am one of the top-performing students in my grade
  • Weighted HS GPA: the GPA system is weird for our school but my current weighted gpa is 4.58
  • ACT/SAT Scores: 1560 (770 RW, 790 Math) SAT II Math: 800, took bio and chem last month and expecting 750+ for both

Coursework
AP Chinese (5), World History (5), Biology (5), took Psychology, Chemistry, Physics 1, Statistics this year and taking Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Physics 2, Environmental Science, Calculus BC next year. Almost all of my coursework is honors/highest level

Awards (honestly my weakest point)
Silver and bronze medal in regional Biology Olympiads (BBO, USABO)
Second place in NHD regionals
high honor roll for every semester since elementary school
will be taking chemistry olympiads in fall 2021

Extracurriculars

  1. Attended a Saturday school every week from kindergarten-middle school, volunteered as a teacher’s assistant since 9th grade, will be the volunteer leader this fall (expecting 400+ hours of volunteer service)
  2. Lab internship with a local professor this summer studying nanomaterials, expecting about 200+ hours of dedication
  3. President of Chemistry Club, Robotics Club
  4. Secretary of Biology Club
  5. 4 years of MUN, no awards but was one of the 3 head chairs at our school’s MUN conference and this is actually one of my most valuable experiences !
  6. Member of Student Council, Investment Club, NHS, Math Club, etc
  7. Really into digital art!! don’t have any ways to show it though should i participate in some art competitions?

Essays/LORs/Other (weak)

  1. Biology Teacher: 5/10
  2. Math Teacher: 6/10

Cost Constraints / Budget
I’m lucky to have no cost constraints!

Schools
I wasn’t planning to apply to the US until very recently so I don’t know much about US colleges and their standards. I was mainly thinking of UC schools + T20s but I think most of these schools are reaches for me so plz match me to some realistic target/safety schools ! FYI I’m really open to any schools in general (location, size, etc really doesn’t matter)
It will be really helpful if you can recommend some ways to improve =)
Also, should I take AP Computer Science courses in my senior year if I’m applying as an engineering major?

What schools are you thinking of? There is so so much diversity among UCs and T20s, and they’ll each offer a completely different experience. Assuming you haven’t been able to visit any US colleges, have you visited any in your home country just to get a general university vibe? Your chances at any one school will increase dramatically if you can provide a strong response to the question of “why this school.” As a starting point, I’d look up professors in your area of research, and you could write about them in an essay, or connect with them to talk about their research and school.

I was thinking of UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, UC Davis, University of Delaware, University of Virginia, Rice University, Duke University, and Drexel University because of their chemical engineering (especially about nanomaterials) program. Can you chance me for any of these schools?
