Objective:
SAT I : 1470 (New SAT)
SAT II: 700+ US History, 700+ Chinese, 700 + Math 2, 700+ Literature
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.51 UW
Weighted GPA: 4.1
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): school doesn’t rank
AP (place score in parenthesis): AP Euro (4), AP Psych (4), AP Bio (3)
Scores to come – AP English Lang, AP US History, AP Chem
Note: I also took Art History and Calc AB this year and dropped them out of stress. I got an F in Calc AB first semester and dropped it, and I’m planning on retaking it next year, and will probably get a B.
Senior Year Course Load (APs): AP Lit, AP Calc AB, AP Envi, AP Stats, AP Gov
Independent Coursework: AP Micro/Macro (scores to come, which I’m worried about), and an Intro to Business class I took last summer at community college.
Extracurriculars:
DECA (top 10 states in my event, IMO not very impressive)
Model UN (President)
English Tutoring (President)
Environmental Activism (communications)
Link Crew
Speech and Debate (teach at middle school)
TEDx (part of core planning team of the first talk at our school)
Key Club
Youth program of a nonprofit media education outreach group that I don’t want to name for personal ID reasons
Job/Work Experience: Intern for my local Congressman’s reelection campaign
Volunteer/Community service: Key Club (close to 50 hours)
Summer Activities: Intern for aforementioned congressional campaign, camp counselor for aforementioned nonprofit media education outreach group, camp counselor/instructor for a UCSD extensions camp
Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
Intended Major: Business Administration/Management, Marketing, or International Affairs
State: CA
School Type: public school
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: F
Income Bracket: a bit below average, I think (single parent household)
Family background: Dad doesn’t have education past middle school, mom went to SDSU and had to drop out and work due to financial circumstances. Rest of my family went to community and dropped out for similar reasons.
I have… interesting (unique-ish)… familial circumstances that I don’t want to go into detail here.
Schools I intend on applying:
NYU (my top choice, for Stern, hopefully Class of 2021)
Columbia (I know I’ll get rejected)
I don’t really know any colleges that fit my credentials, so suggestions would be really appreciated. I know I have pretty good letters of recommendation for teachers. My main concern is how math will affect my admissions chances/ anything I can do to improve that for NYU, beyond retaking Calc (I’ve emailed the admissions officer with the same concern, albeit providing less information.
