Extracurriculars

Popping/Hip hop dance for 4 years. Performed at kollaboration 2007. (pretty good at this, I dedicate a lot of my time to dancing)

Work at my dad's computer shop. (My dad operates the shop by himself so I have to help out. ~20 hours a week for about two years now)

Peer tutor in school (I use my lunch time to tutor kids in math/science)

Mu Alpha Theta president (national math club organization, will hold my position)

Korean Club VP junior year. President this year.

Teaching and helping "mentally" disabled kids at a local elementary school. (I can do this only during summer/winter/spring breaks since those are the only times where my school time doesn't coincide with the elementary school times)

Tennis (private lessons but not competitive and not that good either) - 3 years

Piano (pretty good) - passed level 9 CM test

I am involved in various other environmental activities (like beach clean ups, planting tress, etc.) during the weekends.

Misc

I will have enough college credits by the time I enroll in college to have a junior status

My community classes will let me skip 7 of the 10 required GEs at UCLA, if I do go there. I am pretty sure I will be able to skip out of a lot of classes even if I go somewhere else.

My UC capped gpa is relatively low just because I took too many classes. I even had to limit myself from taking more classes because I figured my gpa was going down even if I take APs and honors classes and get A’s in them.

First generation to go to college

Prospective Math/econ/business major

Schools - All RD (not in any particular order)
Harvey Mudd
UChicago
JHU
UC Berkeley
Cornell
UCLA
UCSD - Safety
Claremont McKenna College

Any inputs/suggestions/criticisms will be appreciated. If any of you want my opinions on your chances, just post the link to your thread.

Your scores are amazing, your extracurriculars look fabulous!! you have nothing to worry about. i think you can safely assume you'll get into all the UC's.
Chance me back please!

Harvey Mudd- match? not entirely sure
UChicago- reach
JHU- match?
UC Berkeley - match
Cornell - reach
UCLA - match
UCSD - safe match
Claremont McKenna College- slight reach?

please do mine

nice gpa average. with that, i think you can pretty much get into any schools.
especially if you're first one to go to college.

Harvey Mudd - match
UChicago - a little reach? idk
JHU - match
UC Berkeley - match
Cornell - match
UCLA - match
UCSD - match
Claremont McKenna College - match

Harvey Mudd - slight match
UChicago - match
JHU - match
UC Berkeley - slight match
Cornell - reach
UCLA - slight match
UCSD - in
Claremont McKenna College - in

Thank you all, I chanced all of you guys back on your respective boards. Any more inputs since my chances apparently vary a lot? I thought it would be more like this..

Cornell, Harvey Mudd, and UChicago - Slight Reach
Berkeley, UCLA, JHU, and Claremont Mckenna - match
UCSD - safety

Very nice GPA and scores. Very good chance!! lol

I'd say probably a very good chance of in at all, except slight reaches at Harvey Mudd, U Chicago, and Cornell.

If buggles my mind that you would chance each other - on what basis? Is this just a way of making each other feel better? Sounds harsh, but the only people you want to chance you are the people (parents and students) that have gone through the process and GC.

why take 3 SAT 2s before you take the SAT

wneckid99 - because I took honors math analysis, ap world history, and college korean language class as a sophomore. I took the SAT IIs in my sophomore year like many of my peers did.

oldfort - you have apparently been here for a long time and I have as well. So I am quite familiar as to what it takes to get to certain schools. I've been on chances forum long enough to chance other people (and know my chances), but I just wanted other people's opinions. And the basis you are talking about varies for each college/university as you should know.

Thank you all.. Would appreciate any criticisms.

bump (10 char)

Harvey Mudd- reach
UChicago- reach
JHU- high match
UC Berkeley- high match
Cornell- high match, low reach
UCLA- match
Claremont McKenna College- err, don't know much about this school

your transcript is really strong, given all your APs and college courses, and your GPA is definitely above average. your EC's are good too, but not stellar. but, it doesn't seem like you have too much volunteer work, and a SAT score of 2100 is on the low end for colleges like uchicago, cornell, and harvey mudd.

chance me please: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/577849-what-my-chances-chance-me-i-ll-chance-you.html#post1061107042

You're in all of you colleges except for maybe Cornell, which is match. just dont screw up the essays.

Why Harvey Mudd? It looks like your primary interest is business, so I would focus on Claremont McKenna, then take as many classes at Mudd (or Pomona) as you wish.

760 Math II is not really Mudd material... Mudd/MIT/Caltech, all require equivalent math skill. That 760 will raise a flag at Mudd... then they'll want to see your Math SAT and your AP Calc BC score. You didn't wimp out and take AB did you? What does that tell Mudd?

Honestly, with as many college and AP courses as you have, the smart thing would be to go to the school that accepts them most liberally. The UCs are famous for giving the most UC course credit. You are correct, you will have completed almost two years of UC unit credit. So check Berkeley and UCLA for their exact unit count on the APs and college classes.

You could easily graduate in two years if your major does not get in the way.

General Comments: BAD Sat score. Everything else looks ok.

Harvey Mudd - low reach
UChicago - reach (Sat is too low)
JHU - high match (Not that hard to get in)
UC Berkeley - in, ELC makes you a shoo-in for UCs
Cornell - in, is easier to get into than UC berkeley with an ok essay.
UCLA - Same as Berkeley
UCSD - Low match.
Claremont McKenna College - Not sure

Chance me back please.

Thanks for the comment everyone.

DunninLA thank you for the criticism and suggestions - I just had mudd on my list because my ap calc strongly recommended me (she is a graduate from there and offered to write me an amazing rec). Also I took the SAT II math 6 months (which will show on my app) after I took the class with no study on my own. And although I know how strong you have to be at math to get into MIT/Caltech/Mudd, 760 is only like 2-3 points off from 800, and I don't think something minor as that will raise a red flag. And our school stopped offering AP Calc BC so I couldn't take the class.

longc418 - I didn't think Chicago would be a reach, but thanks. I will chance you back on your board.

Thank you sadface for the reassurance.

oneking - Is 2100 a BAD score? I know it is on the low ends for some of the schools I am applying to, but 2100 is still like 95% tile. And I will be sure to raise it 2250 range by december. Also I have to disagree that ELC is a shoo-in for UCs (ELC status has hardly any impact on Berkley and UCLA admissions). And your chance for me at Cornell is surprising in a very good way. :)

Bumpp (10 char)

ooh just got a letter from uc davis that I am already in. I was considering applying there just in case they offer me full tuition and as my last resort. Do I have to still apply to davis?

I'd say you have a good shot at all of them.
Pretty good match for JHU and pretty safe for UCs i'd say.
Please chance me? :)
