Being grounded on a beautiful Saturday sucks.

Wow and my friends are going Six Flags today. Since I have nothing better to do, evaluate my stats kthx.

Korean male @ competitive CA public high school (sends over 70 kids to Cal/UCLA each year, 20+ to ivies and other ivy tier schools)

Standardized tests

SAT: taking it next week, will most likely be around 2250 (I'm pretty sure about this), 2300 range if I am lucky.
SAT IIs:
Korean: 780
Bio-M: 800
Math II: 760 (thinking about retaking this. I took this 6 months after math analysis. Should've prepped for this)
World H: 760

AP tests (total=11, maybe 12 if I decide to self-study one):
World: 5
Calc AB, US History, Enviro Sci, Biology, and English Lang are pending.
Will be taking Comp Sci, English Lit, US Gov, Stats, and Euro next year.

Course rigor

Community College courses (taken/taking/will be taking):

Art History (beginning of time - renaissance period)
Art History (renaissance - present)
Calc BC
Multivariable Calculus
Linear Algebra
Differential Equations
Microecon
Macroecon

Senior Schedule:
AP Comp Sci
AP English Lit
AP Euro
AP Stats
Honors US Gov (self studying for AP exam)
Honors Physics
+ couple of community college classes (from the list above)

Academic gpa

UC weighted: 4.54
UC unweighted: 3.85
UC High School (8 semester cap one): 4.15
Rank: within top 10% out of about 700 students. It's still gonna be low in top 10% range since I got all C's in 4 semesters of PE (I thought PE didn't count. Yeah I am stupid)

Extracurriculars

Popping/Hip hop dance for 4 years. Performed at kollaboration 2007. (pretty good at this, I dedicate a lot of my time to dancing)

Work at my dad's computer shop. (My dad operates the shop by himself so I have to help out. ~20 hours a week for about two years now)

Peer tutor in school (I use my lunch time to tutor kids in math/science)

Mu Alpha Theta president (national math club organization, will hold my position next year)

Korean Club VP (will hold my position next year as well)

Teaching and helping "mentally" disabled kids at a local elementary school. (I can do this only during summer/winter/spring breaks since those are the only times where my school time doesn't coincide with the elementary school times)

Tennis (private lessons but not competitive and not that good either) - 3 years

Piano (pretty good) - passed level 9 CM test

I am involved in various other environmental activities (like beach clean ups, planting tress, etc.), but I don't think they are worth mentioning.

Misc

I will most likely have enough college credits by the time I enroll in college to have a junior status (+ I will have already satisfied most of my major requirements).
First generation to go to college
Prospective Math/econ major

Schools I am interested in

Stanford
UCLA
UC Berkeley
UCSD - safety?
Cal Tech
Cornell
UPenn
JHU
Duke
UChicago

I know some of the schools on the list are extreme reaches for me, but chance me anyways? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Will be happy to elaborate on any details if it helps in evaluating my chances.

I forgot to put MIT on the list. Chance me for MIT as well (I figure the chances are extremely low, but I want to know what CC thinks about it)

It wouldnt surprise me if you got into any of the schools on your list. Looks really good to me and I know people who have been accepted for less at MIT and even Stanford.

Haha thanks supereagle10, you really boosted up my self-esteem.

Any criticisms will also be appreciated, any other opinions?

Oh for UCs, regardless of my predicted relatively low class ranking, I have one of the highest UC weighted gpa in school (I only know of 2 people who have higher than me) and so I am pretty sure I will be ELC qualified.

Everything seems solid, but nothing seems to stand out. SATs are great, but not amazing, GPA is in a similar state, ECs are pretty good but plain as well.

That said, with those stats, and being in-state, you have a great shot at all the UCs. I'd say Stanford and Berkeley are low-mid reaches, UPenn is a reach. MIT is a big reach for sure (GPA + SAT's aren't that amazing, and there is little to suggest great potential in math/science).

Alright thanks zephyravatar. I would have participated in math/science competitions, but my classes are pretty intense and dancing takes a lot of time. But I do feel that I showed some of my capabilities in math by taking a lot of math focused courses (I will have finished diff. equations by the time I enroll in college, I am not sure how many would actually have done that) and focusing some of my EC's in math (Mu Alpha Theta president, paid math/science tutor in school). Would it help if I retake the Math II and get a 800 on it? I am sure I could do that with a bit of prep. I also got some 2300+ scores on SAT practice tests.. I might be able to break 2300 on the real one, will that help?

breaking 2300 with a 800 in math will look nice, but not necessary. the 800 in math II will be better since it has a pretty generous curve, although I don't know if you think it will be worth the effort just for one test that you already did well on.

I didn't pay attention to the dancing the first time. it's a fairly uncommon EC, so if you've won any awards there, it would definitely help.

Yeah I have some awards/recognition for popping. As for the math II test, I think I will able to pull off a 800 with a week or two of prep. But I am not sure whether to take it or not since I heard it is unwise to take any SAT II score of 750+ again since colleges will think that I should have spent my time studying to something more worthwhile (?)

Any other opinions/criticisms?

Oh and if it helps, my essays will be good. I'm sure I will dedicate a chunk of my summer break towards writing application essays. I don't know what to expect for my recs so I can't say anything about that.. though I am in good terms with all of the teachers I will be asking recs for. My grades also show upward trend (5.0 weighted and 4.0 unweighted gpa junior year with 5 APs and 2 community college classes)

Chanced you back on my thread

Thanks Lima-bean.

Also I think I didn't emphasize how much dedicated I am to popping, I am a pretty recognized dancer locally and perform at underground parties often (yeah I am not going to mention this in my application lol). In some weeks I practice over 20 hours and its definitely hard to manage with all my classes and my other ECs. And unlike most people who do well in my school, I consider myself to be well rounded. I have a very active social life, good grades, work, community service, piano, and sports. I don't want to dedicate all my time into one area (like math for instance) because I want to be good at everything I do and I think I am to a certain degree.
