Chance me and I will chance your back :D

Hey guys, I'm currently a senior graduating this year! I am seeking to major in biomedical engineering or civil engineering, though I'm leaning more towards biomedical. I only applied to in-state schools because I just can't give anymore stress to my parents with out-of-state tuition. Please be honest

I applied to the following schools (from the top being my 1st choice and the bottom being my last):

UNC Chapel Hill
NC State
UNC Charlotte
UNC Asheville

In-State and Asian
Academics
GPA: UW-3.9 Weighted-4.6
Rank: 5/89
ACT: 29 (Eng-31, Math-31, Read-26, Sci-27) And will not re-take it
SAT: Too ashamed to tell XD Did not send it.

EC's
-Durham Regional Hospital Volunteer (200 hours)
-Adopt-A-Highway Volunteer (Junior and Senior Year)
-Treasurer and Volunteer Coordinator of National Honor Society
-Senior Secretary and Sophomore Class Representative for Student Government
-Yearbook Club Photographer
-Science Club Member (Freshmen and Sophomore Year)
-Math Tutor (Junior and Senior Year)
-UNC Project Uplift (IDK if this will improve my chances for UNC Chapel Hill)

Awards
-Excellence in Alg II Certificate (Basically all the excellence awards are for getting the highest grades in my whole class grade)
-Excellence in Pre-Calc Certificate
-Excellence in Biology Certificate
-Excellence in Eng IV Certificate
-Supertindent Award (twice)
-Mayor's Award (Volunteering over 100 hours over the summer)

Other Requirements (For Chapel Hill)
-Teacher Rec- Teacher loves me! I was her best and favorite student every year
-Counselor Statement- Most likely a good and memorable statement about me. I am one of the most notable students in the school
-Essays: Very Personal! Had it looked over by a english college professor and english high school teacher.

I'd appreciate if you see me as a low target, match, safety, low match, etc for each school.

Thanks you guys! Oh and I will definitely chance back!

Id say lock for all but UNC, then you have a really good chance of getting into UNC.
But what do I know?

You’ll definitely get in NC State, Asheville, and Charlotte. UNC is a little harder but I think you have a great chance, given your grades and state residency. Good luck! Did you apply early action?

Chance back?

UNC has BME but not civil engineering. UNC just has BME, Computer and Environmental (in their applied sciences division)? Honestly, NCSU has a wider array of engineering programs. In my opinion, UNC is better on the whole but if you are set for a technical/engineering education you need to consider all your options.

Honestly, I’ve always wanted to attend UNC! Civil Engineering is my backup major if I attend NC State. NC State, in my opinion, is an excellent school for engineering. If I get accepted to my top 2 schools (NC state is my number two if I get accepted into the engineering program), it would take months until that deposit is due to actually decide which one to attend.

But JohnBlack, I increased my act score from a 27 to a 29. How do my chances look now in getting accepted to UNC? I feel more worried getting accepted to UNC. I feel confident in getting into the other schools I listed.

Your grades look great and your ECs are competitive for an in-state applicant. As you know, your scores are lower than average for IS applicants but you could still get in as it stands. I think you have a shot but a 29 ACT would really help out your chances. Your scores are the only factor I can see that is really holding back your application. It’s going to be really competitive to get into UNC this year.

Hey John, why is it in your reply that you said, “I think you have a shot but a 29 ACT would really help out your chances.” You stated it as though I do not have a 29 on the ACT, but in fact I do have a 29 on the ACT. I retook it and got a 29.
