Chance me and I'll make you lasagna.

Hello =)

I posted this on the Yale forum but didn't get much of a response... so I thought I'd give it one more shot. For those of you who will want to remind me that the admissions process for the Ivies is a crapshoot, I am fully aware of this. I am just looking for something to much on as I await April results.

Thank you in advance!

Objective:
* SAT I : 2220
* SAT II: 800- Italian, 800-French, 740-Bio M, 720- Math II
*GPA (out of 4.5): 4.21
* Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Top 5%
* Senior Year Course Load: Hardest possible at my school. IB with 6 HLs and TOK. One of the HLs was counted as an extra certificate (Art – obtained a 7)
* Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Imperial College London Science Challenge Silver Prize. I don't know how "major" it is, but it is an international competition.

Subjective:

∑ Extracurriculars:

Note: I have moved continents every 2-4 years so it's been a bit hard for me to get the sort of EC continuity some people have. I have also lived in countries that didn't have all this "national scholar", "annual latin exam" type stuff. I have, however, done the best I could:
=> Art - I have exhibited and sold artwork. The profits made in the last funds were awarded to an Eastern European charity. I continue to work with the gallery and am currently preparing a series to help out some extended family in Eritrea( East Africa)
=> Nursing home helper - Did this several hours a week for two years + 1 summer
=>Piano- have been playing since childhood have played in 20+ concerts and am almost at the end of the Associated Boards of Royal Schools of Music examinations.
=>Dormitory Prefect (was in a boarding school for my final 2 years of high school), =>Academic peer tutor in Biology, French, Mathematics and Chemistry.
=>Shadowing doctors in hospital in suburbs of France, worked with GP (basic check-ups) and observed multiple open surgeries.
=>Community Service club (1 year)
=>Currently working with the French Red Cross.
=>Art club
=>NHS
=> Snowboarding
=>"Student Ambassador" for 2 years

∑ * Essays: Somewhat risky, but very positive feedback from multiple readers.
* Teacher Recommendation: One excellent, one outstanding.
* Counselor Rec: Good, I suppose.
* Additional Rec: Attached to my Arts Supplement – Outstanding.
* Interview: None so far.

Other

Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes

Intended Major: Biochemistry/Pre-Med

School Type: On a gap year. Have been to over 9 schools (have lived in 6+ countries, mainly in the 3rd world. My Common App essay touches on this)

Ethnicity: I'm 75% Italian/ 25% Eritrean (East –African)

Gender: Female
∑ Income Bracket: Middle-high
∑ * Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None

That’s one of the most interesting apps that I’ve seen on CC, the ECs look really cool, especially the art exhibits and the piano. The doctor shadowing might help you since you are aiming for med school, if you elaborated that in your app it would look very good. Question, are you applying as an international or are you living in the US? Assuming international because of the whole “6+ countries, mainly in the 3rd world” part, so that might hurt you a little, but your app should help you stand out significantly and give you a decent chance at Yale.

Now where’s my lasagna?

You have really good EC’s, awards, and GPA. SAT would always be better if >2250, but you make up for it with your SATIIs.

If you express your experiences really well, you may have a >50% chance.

edit: PM your lasagna to me. Pictures are welcome :)

Thank you for your refreshing input! Much appreciated. Now check your inboxes. :)

Anyone else?

bump-bump!
