Chance me at Barnard please!

Hello! I’d like some help/advice from you…
I have decided to apply to Barnard ED this November after doing a huge amount of research on it and spending quite a bit of time reflecting on myself and considering what kind of college experience I would like. Barnard just seems like an incredible fit! But it’s really selective. I know nobody on here can tell me for certain whether I can get in or not but I would really like some honest opinions based on some info below. Here is a bit about me.

Leadership

Let me tell you about Leadership. We run the majority of the school’s events and deal with a portion of the school’s money. It’s a class of 70 people and within the class we are broken up into committees such as Spirit, Environmental, etc. I have been in the Assembly Committee since the beginning of Sophomore year. It’s a committee of four people and we have to put on 6 assemblies every year. We run the Homecoming Rally, Talent Shows of all sorts and hold an annual Unity Assembly that celebrates the cultural diversity at my school. Additionally, we hold an annual Social Justice Assembly. In the past years we have held an LGBTQ Assembly, an assembly in honor of Black History Month and more. This year, we are putting together a Mental Health Awareness assembly which has been both a fascinating and saddening experience. We learn a lot about the students at my school this way. Our administration and Leadership teachers are pretty hands off so being on this committee is A LOT of work both during and after school and we have to regularly deal with a large load of pressure. Not only to we plan every aspect of it, we also host it in front of the entire school (2,000 students). I also do quite a bit of community service in Leadership and am expected to fundraise for the my class of 2019. We do quite a few communal events as well. Last year, we collectively campaigned for measure B1, which saved our school’s financial program (this has to do with taxes and what not, it’s complex). Because my best friend is in the committee that makes the school newscasts and other school wide videos, I get to anchor some of the newscasts and help create the fun traditional “Winter Video” at our school. (That lead me to find a local radio and broadcasting program that trains teenagers to eventually intern for a radio station.) Next year, I will be ASB president. It’s quite the experience. I love it a lot.

More Facts: Parents immigrated from Ukraine just before I was born. I so far have about 150 community service hours…I think I will end up accumulating more by the time we turn in applications.

Sorry that this is lengthy but I hope I will get some feedback from you!

Congratulations on being a very accomplished young woman! I think your ECs and academics are all in range of many top schools… the question is going to be why do you see yourself there. In your essays, you are definitely going to want to address why you are applying ED to Barnard, and what it is specifically about the school that made you decide it is your first choice. Good luck!
