I’m going to apply for Yale even though I have a .0001% chance of getting in because someone from my school twenty years ago sued them and lost and nobody from my high school has gotten in since. If anyone has any recs to help me here that would be great

Hooks: legacy at cornell, i’m white and higher income otherwise so nothing else

So can anyone chance me for these schools? I’m really hoping that my freshman GPA doesn’t mess me up too much but I know I have some pretty low chances now: Harvard, Stanford, Penn, Yale, NYU, Columbia, John Hopkins, Northwestern, All the UCs, Barnard, Cornell, USC, binghampton, Georgetown, Emory, UChicage

What do you guys think?

You are a competitive applicant. Your stats and ECs are great. Write good essays and you could get accepted to any of these schools

This is so actual for me …

This is so actual for me …

Calculate your UC GPA and post Unweighted, Capped Weighted and Fully Weighted: https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

You look like a qualified applicant for many of the UC’s, but they tend to be very GPA focused vs. test score focused so your UC GPA will have an impact if it is below 4.0 for the majority of the UC’s. Intended major can also make a difference on your chances at the UC’s.

Once you post your UC GPA’s, I can give you some statistical data which will help you gauge your chances.

I’m assuming your UW GPA is 3.42.
Chances for those competitive schools will be iffy.

Your ACT score will help a little. For the UC’s, unless you are a resident, I think most of them will be tough.

Sorry that’s a typo my UW gpa is 3.92 my weighted gpa is 4.47

My UC GPA is a 4 UW and a 4.35 weighted and capped

You didn’t list your intended major but you should be in good shape as far as UCs goes. I’ll assume that by UCs you mean UCLA and Berkeley. There’s a good chance you would be waitlisted/yield protected at the other UCs since you’ll probably fall outside their normal acceptance range ring. The only issue I see would be for Berkeley’s and UCLA’s EECS program which are extremely difficult to get into and you could call it a lottery.

As far as your classes, the only picky things that I see might be that you are taking Calc AB instead of BC and I don’t see any Chem or Physics classes, but your senior schedule looks quite tough already.

my school doesn’t offer calc BC. I might take a class out of school and then take the AP test on my own since it could help my chances. Also not taking physics but took honors chem as a sophomore… also my intended major will be english

This is 2017 data and 2018 data should be out in the Fall.

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 4.20 or above (capped weighted) and not major specific:

UCB: 42.7%
UCLA: 47.2%
UCSD: 84.2%
UCSB: 82.0%
UCD: 90.3%
UCI: 94.1%
UCSC: 92.7%
UCR: 97.5 %
UCM: 98.1%

If you’re intending on being an English major, Calc AB should be perfectly fine.

Hey you guys thanks for chancing me at the UC’s but can anyone chance me at the other schools I asked about Thanks!

I think you need safeties.
For the HYPS-not going to happen. Too few seats.

Your EC’s are all over the place; you did quantity over quality; they don’t meld.

Ironically, according to my college counselor my ECs are some of the strongest in my entire grade. Also I thought personally that I have a creative writing spike so I might take all non-writing ECs off my applications. Also I work with a bunch of outside literary journals but due to privacy concerns I can’t really say what they are or how prestigious they are.

Any more responses, you guys?

In state or OOS for UCs?

in state

Your grades are great but your ECs don’t give much away with what you actually want to do (writing, STEM, Music, law are the ones that jump out). That may be a weak point with colleges, especially Ivies and UCs who want to see a specialized candidate. Also, Yale most definitely is not discriminating against your school b/c of a case - that would just open them up to more opportunities to be sued!

You seem as if you are talented at whatever you do - if you try to specialize your ECs now, it would show.

Also, as a junior, how do you know if you’re a National Merit finalist? My school counselor said that results don’t come out until the school year of 2018-19 starts.

I think you stand a great chance at all the school you are applying to simply because of your ECs. Colleges want to know how you can contribute to their school and you are academically qualified so it comes down to your application essays and how you show your strengths through your ECs. Chance me too if you can!
