Chance me at MIT, Harvey Mudd, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, U of Southern Cal. and others?

Graduating Class: 2015
International Student
GPA: 3.86 UW
SATs: 1890 (not reporting)
ACTs: 35 Composite (35/36/34/34)
Class Rank: I think around 4th or 5th out of 80ish, so about top 5%
APs: European History (5), World History (4), Statistics (5), United States History (Pending), Calculus AB (Pending), Psychology (Pending), Physics B (Pending)
-- Senior schedule will include AP US Govt, AP English Lit, AP Spanish Lit, AP Comp Science, and a Calc II class at a local university.

EC's:
Debate Club:
- President (12th), Vice President (11th)
- Have participated in 5 MUN conferences (3 international)
- Will participate in 3 more International conferences
- Among these is THIMUN 4x (worlds largest MUN, chaired twice)

Science Club:
- Founded this club (10th)
- President (10th, 11th, 12th)
- Organized several school competitions such as bottle rockets, catapults etc.
- Raised money to donate to underprivileged school's science programs
- Most active club at my school by quite a bit.

Techo
- Large Community Service club in my country that volunteers in the poorest communities to build, paint, repair houses, etc
- around 50 hours of community service (doesnt seem like much but its around 5 hours in a weekend around once a month).

Total of 200 community service hours gained through tutoring, volunteering at my school's summer camp, and miscellaneous volunteer activities such as beach cleanups.

Internship:
This summer I'm going to work with the ACP, the institution that runs the Panama Canal and I'll have close experience with the expansion of the Panama Canal, one of the biggest engineering projects in the world, possibly the biggest in Latin America. VERY excited for this, since I want to study Civil Engineering.

Recommendation Letters:
I have several candidates,
AP Calc and AP Physics teacher who absolutely LOVES me and will no doubt write wonders about me (im her favorite student and she doesn't even try to hide it in class lol)

MUN Director and AP Psychology teacher who also loves me and would write very well about me, I've seen some of the recommendations she has written for when I apply for Student Officer positions at MUN conferences and they are fantastic

Spanish teacher from 10th-12th grade. I'm among her favorite students and she is someone that requires a lot of hard work, dedication and character for her to like you, thus I firmly believe she would write extremely well about me (I've heard from my peers that she speaks very well about me in their classes).

Essays: Have not written any drafts yet, as I still have more than half a year to do so, but I'm a good writer so I imagine they will come out well.

Here is the list of schools I am thinking of applying to:
MIT
Harvey Mudd
Vanderbilt
Johns Hopkins
UC Berkeley
University of Southern California
Georgia Tech
Notre Dame

Your statistics are good but generally not enough to say you have a very good chance for the very selective schools such as MIT. I do however think you have good chances at the other universities. Good luck!

I agree completely, MIT is my long-shot candidate, something that I would regret if I didn’t try to at least apply.
How do you feel about the next tier, the HMC, Vanderbilt, UC Berkeley group?

I think you will be a good competitor for acceptance (but many people who apply have a similar application) to all of them. Just be sure to apply to certain safety schools. Also, try to have great letters of recommendations (which I think you have) and essays.

Your application is really strong, but I don’t think it is MIT-strong. I don’t know about Harvey Mudd, but I think that Vanderbilt, JHU, and Berkeley are matches; USC and Norte Dame are lower matches; Georgia Tech is a low match.

Chance back
<a href=“Chances for UVA and Vanderbilt. Will chance back. - Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1634747-chances-for-uva-and-vanderbilt-will-chance-back-p1.html</a></p>

From what I have seen, no school with an acceptance rate <20% (except maybe UCB) can be considered a match.
