Current GPA as of today: 3.8651 (Will be around a 3.9 after teachers put their new grades in. I've calculated that it should be higher than a 3.9 by my senior year.)

SAT (Last year, no PSAT/study): 1590
I've been practicing on the blue book and have been getting 2200s.
I'm trying to improve it to at least the 2300s by the June SAT Exams.

SAT Subject Tests (Will be taking, I have none at the moment):

You might be wondering how in the world I'm affording the fees for all the exams. I can't. Our city pays for them, so that's what I want to take advantage of this.

Major and what I've done so far:
Civil & Architectural Engineering

I'm in the process of compiling a portfolio for both Princeton & MIT, a CD, consisting of the projects I've done. They range from houses to buildings, with full parametric plans in industry standard form. In addition, I am including high-quality renderings and walkthroughs of the buildings. The majority are LEED certified and are carbon neutral. In addition, I've actually made some of them in scale size, which I will gladly add to the portfolio.

I've also entered a few competitions in architecture and have won. I'm looking forward to doing more of them along with making more houses/buildings in order to increase my portfolio further.

In addition, I've done some mechanical engineering with mostly Autodesk programs. My projects range from a basic toy propelled by an electric motor to many different types of engines.

Also, I'm a programmer, so I'll be including the programs I have written. They are mostly Java, however, I'm in the process of learning C++ and Python to expand my knowledge further.

In addition, I'm also a web designer and coder. I've built a large array of websites. I sort of gave up on this. However, I did have two very popular websites that helped me earn about $9,800 which I am currently saving for backup.

Also, I'm of course, like many of you, a computer technician. I used to self-own a company that would fix people's computers and would occasionally help around the school. I gave up on the company due to school.

Last but not least, I love art. Drawing or writing, you name it. I've had ideas of writing my own books and wrote some outlines. For drawing, many say my artwork is great. However it is not something I do very often since my education is my primary objective at the moment. However, I pointed it out since architecture is a low subfield of civil engineering. (You can't have a design without structure)

Nevertheless, my passion for engineering is very strong. Not only do I want to invest what I will learn in college on civil engineering, but also I want to enter the space industry as it has always been a dream of not only me, but perhaps most probably everyone, to travel to space with alternatives methods other than methods we have today.

So, what do you think? If I do not qualify for either, could you possibly recommend any tips or other engineering universities?
If you need any other information I left out, please let me know.

Thank you. :)

Why the hell are you self-studying so many APs?

For credit and I’m interested in most of them. I mean, you can apply all that knowledge to almost any problem in engineering! :)

Again, it’s interesting and it’s free. So why not take advantage of it?

It’s impossible to predict Princeton and MIT.

Ah. I think I see what you mean since they have a plethora of people applying. They could choose anyone they wish, pretty much. They said that they wanted kids with passion to what they want to major in. That’s why I want to make the portfolio perfect since it will show all the work I’ve been doing for it.

The problem with your information is that the ONLY thing impressive is the gigantic workload you have in terms of classes and extracurriculars.
But listing a grocery list of all the sports you’re involved in, for example, doesn’t give us a good idea of your TALENT. We see that you’re very involved, but we don’t know HOW involved or HOW committed you are to these.
Please be more specific!
Princeton and MIT want to see a passion for a certain subject. Pick one and really focus on winning LOTS of awards and such. Art and architecture and computers are great, but you need to showcase them well and really impress upon admissions office how you will contribute to their campus.
Do lots of community service that relates to your interests and put your all in your service. Good luck!
Please elaborate on your involvements :]

I doubt you will be able to self-study all of those. Even if you do, you’ll probably fail more than half of them.

1) How on earth were you able to go from 1590 to 2200’s on the SAT?
2) Good luck self studying 13 AP’s in the same year
3) Your architecture/computer stuff is pretty solid. Emphasize that on your app.

Even with zero preparation the first time and much the second time, going from a 1590 to over 2300 is exceedingly rare.

Your EC list seems lifeless.

Also, for your sports list under your EC, only list the ones you were significantyl involved in, and emphasize your achievements in those sports. Don’t list like every sport there is at your school. I could just as easily say I participated in volleyball, baseball, basketball, lacrosse, swimming, track and field, crew, football, soccer, when in actuality I played volleyball ONCE in my backyard, or when in reality I don’t know how to swim but went to the swimming pool over the summer.

And also, for your self-studies, you better have completed some of them already. Even you “started” already, you won’t finish and you’ll probably have tons of exam schedule conflicts.

no offense, but outright reject.

SAT is ridiculously low for top unis like MIT/Princeton.
your ECs are like a laundry list. unimpressive and boring. you probably don’t even have time for half of them
you’re not gonna take all those APs. you can lie and say you will, but then you really don’t spend any time on any of your ECs, making them all pointless. you can say you’re a genius that doesn’t need to study but I’ll point out your SAT score.

please don’t. bad idea.

sorry, I’m not usually this harsh.

okay, that said, your architecture stuff sounds interesting. web design is rather nice too. emphasize those points on your app. get SAT scores up, surprise us. apply more widely, Harvey Mudd is good for engineering, I’m sure there are many more.

Why bother taking so many SAT IIs? At least don’t take Math 1 when you’re already planning to take Math 2?

I’m sure you’re pretty organized and have thought this stuff out, but how are you going to take all eight subject tests? You’re taking the June SAT I, and you’re going to need an additional three test dates to take all of those [three max per test date]…

as some people have said, you’re going to need to rethink the huge workload. Good luck with everything, though.

How does that work? So you never took pre-cal but is taking AP Calc BC? Pre-cal covers a broader topic than BC actually. BC goes really fast so it doesn’t review many concepts in Pre-cal so think about getting a tutor or take a pre-cal class over the summer.

That’s a lot of self-studying APs in one year. I’m only doing one next year from self-studying I think (but five from classes), hey maybe you’re just more disciplined. I do not recommend taking so many SAT-2s. There’s simply no use for the extra ones if you can score above 780 on three of them, which is the requirement for ivies. Also, you can only report 6 scores on the common application. If you want to major is architecture/engineer, I’d say focus on science and math instead of history and literature. If you can’t handle all the courses, choose quality over quantity. It better to get 4/5 on 12 tests than a mixture of 2/3/4/5 on 22. Good luck!!

I think many of the above concerns have merit.

i don’t about you guys but…

my ■■■■■ senses are tingling

Well in the case that the OP is a ■■■■■… I give them props for being one of the most dedicated, thorough ■■■■■■ I’ve ever seen.

Thanks.

And no, I’m no ■■■■■, however, I’m flattered. :)

Where did you end up going?
