I’m currently a junior, and I’m planning to take the subject tests in May as well as retake the SAT and take the ACT for the first time this June. My intended major is either computer science or electrical engineering and computer science combined. I’m also putting forth on here what I’m planning to do in the future in terms of this summer and my senior year. With that being said…
SAT: 1310 (A little low, I know, but I’m working hard at the moment at those practice questions!), UW GPA: 3.92, W GPA: 4.93, Rank: 7/293 (at top 2%)
AP courses: AP Human Geography (9th grade, 5) AP World History (10th grade, 3) AP Drawing (10th grade, 2) AP English Language and Literature (current) AP US History (current) AP Statistics (current) AP Psychology (current) AP Literature (senior) AP Computer Science Principles (senior) AP Calculus AB (senior, as of now I’m enrolled in precalculus) AP Chemistry (senior)
Extracurriculars: Cleaner at my parents’ nail salon throughout the week (towel folding, cleaning tubs and tools, taking out trash etc.), art club for 2 years (volunteered at the local gallery and won a 2nd place award at the annual art festival for a self portrait of myself), after school math tutor, helped sell food at a charity event for the local Buddhist monastery from 3pm till midnight, volunteered at the doctor’s office filing papers and helping the IT admin diagnose and fix a computer, volunteered at a vacation bible school in the summer where I took care of preschoolers and kindergarteners in activities (first time taking care of kids, realized I really like kids more than I thought I would lol), was a speaker at the local Buddhist monastery and gave a speech on the importance of mothers everywhere.
As of now I’m currently dedicated and active in the chess club where I manage stats and scores, and I’m planning to start a program at one of the elementary schools here where I teach chess to kids. Also, I have an upcoming 10 day trip to Japan this summer where I’ll be conducting a research project on the development of technology in Japan, and am currently trying to learn the Japanese language and culture at the moment (one of my other passions). Also am working on a few coding projects, and planning to get a part time job at either the local library or coffee shop this summer.
I am currently working on 4 MOOC courses on edX and am planning to certify in them, those of which are Harvard’s CS50, MIT’s Python Course, Introduction to Electrical and Electronics Engineering from TokyoTech, and Japanese Language and Culture from Tsinghua.
Hooks: I have a passion for Japanese language and culture, the arts, chess club, kids, and programming and technology, and some work experience on my belt. I don’t know if this’d be appropriate, but I also have had a personal rough and scarring experience with coming out of the closet (accidentally) through personal circumstances.
And lastly I’m an Asian female whose family makes ~$40k per year, living in SW Florida. My dream school is MIT, but I think I’d love and thrive at Northeastern and Tandon just as well and can’t wait to study computer science and engineering either way!
Btw if anyone has any advice or notes on what areas or activities to improve upon to make myself stronger, that’d be great. Thanks!
