Chance me at these schools please, this is urgent!

I'm an international student. I know it's hard to predict chances without looking at essays, recommendations and stuffs, but I'd be thankful If you can give me some input based on my stats, because honestly I feel a bit lost and don't know where I stand right now. And it'd be great especially if anyone can help me finalize my school list.

Gender: M
Location: Vietnam
College Class Year: 2013
Will apply for financial aid: Yes (I need a lot of aid actually)

Senior year predicted GPA: 8.8/10

Scores:

SAT I Math: 770
SAT I Critical Reading: 670
SAT I Writing: 770
Total: 1440/2210

My letters of recommendation are great, and I think my essay is good, nothing spectacular.

Extracurriculars:

An English club - website admin
Class soccer team - Captain
Some community services working with needy/ disabled children - 200 hours in total
Working for a student-run tour guide group in my city
Vietnam Youth Forum

Colleges of Interest (this is NOT the final list)

Washington University in St. Louis (ED)
Berea College
Centre College
Coe College
Colgate University
Connecticut College (considering ED2)
Dickinson College
Lawrence University
Occidental College
Ohio Wesleyan University
Saint Olaf College
Truman State University
Union College
Wittenberg University (EA)

Desired College Characteristics:

Location: rural or suburban preferred, but I'm flexible on this.
Size: anything from 1,000 to 10,000
Major: undecided. I think I like Environmental studies, but I'm not sure. I prefer colleges with a good variety of majors so that I'll have a lot of options to choose from later on. I'm not into sciences and probably engineering though. Academically I like a laid back, or at least not too competitive environment. Students should be friendly and definitely not cliquey. Diversity is important. I don't think I love being surrounded by a lot of really wealthy kids.

A vibrant social life is important, and I'm absolutely not into Greek! I also love schools with lots of study abroad opportunities.

Please note that I'm pretty flexible on all of these factors.

I know my ECs are not very good. I especially need as many suggestions as possible regarding my school list, because I think that's a little too many reaches there and not enough safeties. Should I remove or add any?

Thank you!

bump anyone please

really? you think there are too many reaches?

id say your ONLY possible reach is washu. the rest are matches or safeties and you should get in.

but i dont really know much about international students though

chance me back please?

Chance you back.

Your SAT is decent and EC’s are good (whether you develop them well in essay/interview will make a differece)

Washington University in St. Louis (ED) low-reach/reach
Berea College no idea
Centre College match
Coe College match/safety?
Colgate University reach
Connecticut College (considering ED2) no idea
Dickinson College match
Lawrence University low reach? no idea
Occidental College match
Ohio Wesleyan University no idea
Saint Olaf College no idea
Truman State University no idea
Union College low match
Wittenberg University (EA)no idea

Sorry for so many so-ideas…Im not farmiliar with those schools and i don’t want to mislead you.

good luck!

You may want to look at Illinois Wesleyan. They have a few big scholarships for internationals. I would look at Wooster College as well. Keep Lawrence. You sound like a Lawrentian type. Look at Beloit College. If it were me I would stick to the LACs and like I said before that are in the MidWest. You will get all that you hope for in a great education.

I know you are worried about finances and so you should be. Really, begin to write to the schools you are interested in. (Emails) You will get a feel for who is interested in you and who is not. Don’t apply to a school that you are not really interested in just for money. It will show. I know it’s hard from your perspective but you can search the websites and get a feel and usually they will have students you can chat with or email. In the end, if they are quick to respond and you like what you “see” put them in the apply pile. You will need that sort of interest and individual attention when you get into the home stretch and you are thousands of miles away. I know. My son went through this process thousands of miles away.

In the SAT result thread you posted your CR score as 570 instead of 670. Which is it? It made a HUGE difference…

:-/ Unfortunately I haven’t heard of most of the schools on your list. WUSTL is a slight reach, but I think you can make it. And even though you’re international, I think that you’ll most likely be in at Dickinson.

thanks a lot, overseas! Your post was really helpful. I will definitely be a Lawrence applicant this year, and I’ll take great care of your other school suggestions.

@ confused_vnese: the one in the result thread must have been a typo. My CR was 670. By the way you must be the “Quyen” on VA, nice to meet you here on CC :D

thanks everyone for chancing me, more input are welcome!

Add beloit, grinnell and carleton to your list. All are good with international aid, esp Beloit and Grinnell

Haha yes indeed  Anyway just to give you a heads-up a lot of Vietnamese with your stats (or similar, or sat slightly lower but definitely >2100) applying to WashU.

Including me  (RD though)

The battle will be tough

But i think your SAT score is really respectable for someone schooled in Vietnam. Well done! :)

thanks for your encouragement. How do you know many vietnamese will be applying to Wash U this year?

[this is a polite bump]

anyone know any schools similar to Wash U (in terms of its people - that’s what I love most about Wash U)

[another polite bump. still no more replies. The required level of politeness on CC is really getting on my nerves lol]

but seriously everyone please help!! this thread is not just another nerve-calmer thread. The deadline is approaching and I’m still not done with my school list.
