Schools I’m thinking about:
Suny Albany
Stony Brook University
Binghamton University
University at Buffalo
Rochester Institute of Technology
Rutgers-New Brunswick
UConn-Main Campus
I am thinking about majoring in computer science and I understand that CS tends to be a very competitive major . I go to a very competitive high school the NYC suburbs that is nationally ranked and offers plenty of AP courses.
I am looking for colleges in the Northeast.
SAT:1470(750 Math, 720 RW)
Weighted GPA:96
AP scores:US History(4) AP Computer Science A(4)
Took many honors courses
Senior Course Load:All AP and college credit courses
Additionally, I took all the Computer Science courses my school offers if that helps at all.
I am involved in a few extracurricular activities and had a summer job for the past two years, but nothing extraordinary
Essay:8.5/10
Recommendation:My computer science teacher, who I had known for 3 years
Congratulations on your hard work and success! I’d think you would be a very competitive candidate at all the schools on your list. They seem like they would be good fits in general.
I don’t know your financial situation. You include several SUNY schools, which is great–good chance of admission, reasonable cost. If you can pay more, you might look at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in MA. We liked RIT a lot, but liked WPI more (though that might just be us). WPI is more highly ranked than most realize. Campus is beautiful; vibe is great. It’s in a very nice neighborhood in Worcester, which is undergoing a major downtown overhaul. It was one of our favorite schools. Program is very unique in that it is extremely hands-on and project-oriented. Much of the class work is organized around projects. Students work in groups all the time. Students take 3 classes at a time. Sticker price is high, but you’d probably get some money. It would almost certainly cost more than the SUNY schools though. I would consider it a match for you. Good luck!
