I am considering the University of Minnesota for Sports Management. I received their Golden Gopher Application (which looks like it’s the same as the normal application, so I don’t know if that makes a difference). My GPA is sort of low, but it shows an upward trend. I had around 3.1 freshman year, 3.2 sophomore year, and 3.9 junior year. I’m afraid that I will not be accepted because I failed Geometry sophomore year, and I also have 3 Cs on my transcript (2 freshman year and 1 sophomore year). Here are my other stats:
3.4 GPA
29 ACT
Top half of class (70/170)
No honors classes, 1 AP (Human Geography, taking this year)
4 years of FFA
3 years of club lacrosse
1 year of volunteering for a food pantry

Do you think that I will be admitted? How strong are my chances? Will the F (and the Cs) keep me from getting admitted?

I am also interested in Towson University, Loyola University Chicago and Indiana University Bloomington. What do you think my chances are at those schools?

I don’t think the F necessarily means that you don’t have a chance since your GPA overall is not bad and you have an upward trend. Good Luck!

In my opinion, it doesn’t seem like you challenged yourself with the classes you took, which could be a significant factor in the admission process. But your GPA and ACT score would help you get in to all of the schools listed. Just hope that your lack of rigorous classes doesn’t effect your chances.

The F will most likely hurt your chances. However, the strong upward trend is great! Your ACT score is also above the average for these schools. Don’t count yourself out. I’d be surprised if you didn’t get into at least one! Best of Luck!

Definitely apply at Loyola. Beautiful school in an awesome location! You’ll get in no problem.

I think the Golden Gopher application waived the application fee and the essay requirement.
