Extras: legacy at Penn (planning on applying ED there)

Thanks in advance!

What do you plan on writing your essays about?

im a legacy at penn too! the only thing would be that i don’t see much of a theme in your ec’s. that could also be the fact that i got 2 hours of sleep though. are you applying to CAS? what is your prospective major?

What’s your unweighted GPA? I am also a senior, so I can’t really chance you. But if your unweighted GPA is relatively high, you probably have a shot. I wouldn’t say good shot (because for penn and nu, no one really does). But you do have a shot! I’m not sure how valued legacy is at Penn. Maybe that’s your hook?

@empanada‌ SEAS! I’ve also been thinking of applying to Penn’s dual degree program of computer science and cognitive science. My ec’s revolve around the fine and liberal arts while my course load is more technical, so I thought that would’ve been helpful, actually. But maybe not?

@sallymeno11‌ It’s not that high, unfortunately. I haven’t calculated it recently, but I’d assume it’s around 3.6 .

No sports or job? Berkeley might consider you for full fees-$60K per year costs to bring in money for California.

I thought you have uwGPA of 4.0. Your OP is a kind of misleading. With uwGPA at 3.6, your chance would be much lower at these top engineering schools. They would reaches at different levels for you. If you do have 4.0 in uwGPA, then you have a couple between high match and low reach (e.g. UMich LSA for CS major).

@northernlights624 they like to see a clear focus on something, so that they have a better sense of who you are and what you will bring to penn. that’s what they told me, at least

@northernlights624 maybe you can bridge that gap in your essay?

I think you have a good shot at all of them and you’re almost guaranteed to get into Penn as a legacy. Good luck!

@billcsho‌ How is it misleading? My weighted GPA isn’t that high anyways, which is definitely a concern of mine.

Thank you @meggy2414‌ !

@empanada‌ yeah I’ll try that! Thanks

@Northernlights624 If it is 4.2, it is not out of 4.0 max scale. Obviously the max possible wGPA would be above 4.0 in your case. Or if you mean “wGPA 4.2 (4.0 before senior)”? At first, I thought you mean 4.2wGPA and 4.0uwGPA. In any case, it is not clear which way you want to show.

@billcsho oh sorry about that. That’s how my school writes weighted GPA. Some schools have GPAs out of 4, some 5, and mine’s out of 4. But my unweighted GPA was unlisted in the OP.
