CHANCE ME, Chance Me, chance me...

I don't think I ever posted a chances thread in Yale, so here goes...

Demographics:
-Asian male from CA
-Low-income
-First-generation Vietnamese immigrant (US citizen now though)
-Very bad public high school (no one applying to any ivies or top school except my brother and I)

GPA: -3.95 (unweighted, grades 9-11).
-4.27 (weighted, grades 10-11).
Rank: 3

My school is on block schedule this year so I have semester grades for senior year (3 A's, 1 B). I took the hardest classes throughout high school (but unfortunately my school is very limited in courses so that doesn't say much).

SAT I: 2220 (800 CR, 680 M, 740 W); one sitting
SAT subject:
-US history: 770
-Math level II: 750
-Literature: 710 (may retake in January to get 750+)

EC's:
-Piano (9 years)
-Martial arts (black belt, student instructor)
-Vice-pres of Ecology club
-Treasurer Vietnamese club
-Church youth group leader and keyboardist on band
-School orchestra/choir

Recs: will be pretty good I hope.

AP tests: english lang-4; USH-4

one question: if you go to a very bad public school, shouldn't you rank like 1 or 2 (along with your brother)?

it could depend on course selection as well shobhit. I notice he is taking orchestra in school. Most schools who do ranking based off of weighted GPAs won't give an orchestra A as much weight as an AP class A. So the kids who choose not to take music/atheletic courses and just lay on the academic advanced courses get a leg up in rank.

^I took the most rigorous courses (only AP and honors give extra points and my school does not weight). The difference between a 1, 2, and 3 rank in my school is probably one B. Last year at end of Junior year I was rank 1 but after first quarter of Senior year I got one B in AP calc and now I'm 3. :(

blumpblumpblump???

there seems to be a descrepancy between your SAT I Math score and your SAT II Math Level 2 score...

Actually, like most of us, your chances will probably depend a lot on how well your essays are written.

I did better on the math ii for some reason; hopefully it will make up for the low sat math score.

looks decent, when i consider your background and first generation stuff its looking good.

i daresay better than average chance.

Thanks everyone.

I got in. :)
