Theatre Crew-11,12 (6-12hr/w)

Mentoring Program-11,12 (1hr/w)- I work with at-risk students, playing games with them, tutoring them, and most importantly being a role model for them.

Robotics Team- 11,12 (8-10hr/w)

Student Council Rep.- 12 (4hr/w)- I'm working with the Executive Board President on our school district's recycling program. I will most likely be the head of the recycling program next year, and I plan on expanding the program and addressing some the problems with the program.

School Improvement/Grant writing project- I'm currently working with a friend on developing a school improvement plan and a grant writing campaign. My school district and high school have been struggling for many years now. We receive one of the lowest per-pupil allowances from the state of Michigan and the lowest of the districts that border us. Along with the low state funding, property values in my town are extremely low. We saw a larger drop to our property values last year than the bordering city of Detroit did. Furthering to the low revenue, there has been a mass exodus of students from our district. My high school had over 1200 students a few years ago, we're expected to have around 800 next year. The district had over 4500 students, now we have less than 3000. Decreasing revenue has taken a real toll to our school district, placing us in multimillion dollar debt and limiting our ability to invest in our schools. To make matters worse, we have a terrible school board. Instead of realizing the few programs we have left are keeping students here, the school board instead cuts programs and further drives more students away. The limited opportunities for students, an education system that's not working well enough, and an incompetent school board has prompted my friend and I to take action. Our efforts hope to address a wide range of issues from technology to textbooks to extracurricular offerings to renewable energy.

Math tutoring program- I plan on starting a tutoring program this fall to help elementary children excel in mathematics. Less than 20% of our 3rd-5th graders score proficient or higher on our state's assessment test; that has to be improved.
