Hi, I am applying to Columbia, Barnard, UVA, Georgetown, and a couple other safe schools! I’m really nervous and would love if somebody could tell me my chances and give some advice.
Overview:
White female, I go to an arts magnet school in Atlanta, GA, top 10% of my class of 77. I want to be an attorney. I don’t know if this will help at all, but a girl from my school is currently a freshman there and another went to Barnard. We usually have about 1-3 students per year who end up attending ivys.
GPA: 4.15 UW: 3.95
I’ve taken every most rigorous course that is available to me.
I took 9th-grade math in 8th grade and got a B (one of 3 on my transcript, my other two were in both semesters of AP calculus) but every school I’ve talked to does not count that grade so without that my GPA would increase.
Test scores:
SAT
Composite super score: 1470
RW: 770
Math: 700 (ugh, planning on getting it up to a 730/740)
I am taking the literature, US history, and biology subject tests, expecting 750+ on each.
AP’s:
my school only offers 9 academic AP’s, which I have/am taking all of, 4 previously and 5 this year.
AP World History - 5
AP US History - 5
AP Lang - 4
AP Calc AB - 3
Extra Cirriculars:
Leader of school’s Mock Trial team, been on team for 4 years, been an attorney for 3, received two “best attorney” awards at competition, won district twice
President of my sophomore class
Rigorous acting career outside of school, part of the school’s top acting troupe for 3 years which tours GA performing in competitions
Part of school’s premier audition choir, tours and performs in competitions
Part of church choir for 6 years
Founder and president of school’s Eco Team (volunteer work)
Part of Beta Club (volunteer work)
Part of NHS (volunteer work)
Part of church youth group (volunteer work)
Awards:
Sadly, being part of an arts magnet school where everyone is amazing in both academics and arts, my school barely gives out any awards. Here is what I do have:
- Best Attorney in mock trial twice, one in district and one in regionals
- Mock trial team won district
- Actor of the year 9th grade drama
- Acting troupe won regionals two years
- NHS induction (is this even worthy lol)
- Principal’s Honor roll every year except 11th grade because of calculus (I am not a math person oops)
Obviously, Columbia is my first choice and I would weep tears of utter joy if I were accepted. I basically have my life planned out, I am set on doing constitutional law and getting a job at the DOJ (yes, I know I have to be flexible, but a girl can dream!). Wherever I go, I plan on working diligently to get into Columbia law school, but going to Columbia undergrad would make achieving my life goals so much easier AND I’d be at my dream school!
It would be wonderful if someone could help me out. I kinda feel weird putting out all of this information, but from what I see people are usually nice and/or give constructive criticism. Thank you SO MUCH!!!
