Chance me - Computer Science Major

Hey

I have a pretty terrible GPA at 3.12/5.3. I have little to no extracirricular activies outside of little computer science related projects I've done by myself (which I'm putting on my resume). However, my SAT scores might carry me to UMA. I got a 1920 combined, with a ~1300/1600.

I really have no idea what to think because my gpa is so terrible and my SAT scores are above the high average for UMA, according to Naviance.

I also think that I'll have pretty good recommendations. My freshman and sophmore years of high school were rought to say the least... my junior grades are pretty "ok" at a ~B- average, and my senior first quarter grades are good. I've definitely improved as a student and I have a totally different outlook towards school than when I first began High School. I'm really dedicated towards computer science and I can't wait for college.

Can anyone lend a man a hand?

UMA may wonder why you have above average SAT scores, but your grades don’t match. They make look at that as a “genius-slacker”. If your grades are higher and your SATs are lower, that’s different. But based on your qualifications, I’d say you have a good chance of getting in, but try to sign up for an activity or two. I did only one activity last year, but now I’m in charge of that activity due to my effort, and I’m a member of two more clubs. It’s not too late to join clubs. :)

I’m applying to UMA as well.
