Please Chance Me !!
Also tell me if changing my major from marketing in questrom to marketing in COM makes sense!

Other Universities I’m applying to - (PLEASE CHANCE ME FOR THESE TOO)

  1. Northeastern (IB avg 32) (don’t know the rest)
  2. GWU
  3. Babson
  4. Bentley
  5. Fordham
  6. Syracuse
  7. Umich

Applying to the same course for all!

Please be brutally honest about my chances of getting in! I really want to go to BU!

ALSO, I’ve ticked the box for wanting to considered for CGS, if I get that should I go?

Also, I forgot to mention, there is no class rank system and I have strong LOR’s and I’m in a top 25 school in my country

I’m familiar with the IB system so I’ll try to chance you. For all intents and purposes, I think the IB Diploma score roughly corresponds to GPA. A 40 is a round a 4.0, a 35 is around a 3.5 (unweighted and with a very significant AP courseload for an American equivalent).

  1. Northeastern - Match. Your IB score is fine but your SAT is somewhat questionable, especially given the fact that they try to game the college admissions game by raising their SAT medians every year. Your ECs are fine for Northeastern. The reason why this isn't a high match is due to the fact that as a general rule, American institutions are more forgiving of slightly lower SAT scores from foreign applicants.
  2. GWU - Match. Once again your IB score is fine and GW is test-optional.
  3. Babson - High Match. They like good math scores, to which your 6 in IB math SL is fine but your SATs really aren't. Do well on Math II and you should be fine.
  4. Bentley - Low match. Not a difficult school with your stats; you should be fine overall.
  5. Fordham - Match. Your grades and scores are on the target, your ECs are definitely good enough for Fordham.
  6. Syracuse - Match
  7. Umich - Reach, especially because both your scores and grades are by no means there. Umich probably needs a 38 or 39 bare minimum, especially if you wanna do engineering or business, both of which are especially oversubscribed by internationals.
  8. BU - With ED and the lack of need for aid, maybe a match. Its getting increasingly difficult every year, and contrary to what the ranking states is a more selective institution than Northeastern (they just don't game the system as much).

Generally you should be fine, but please look for a safety school just in case things don’t go your way

Hi, thank you so much for chancing me. @HRS1861

Northeastern explicitly states that they don’t require SAT for international students and if submitted it won’t be considered.
Also my question still persists since Questrom is comparatively harder to get into, should I change my applied major to COM and then change it when I get there?

@mon219 it would be in your interest to apply to an easier program, given that you are willing to accept the risk of being unable to transfer following matriculation, and that your application can show sufficient interest and aptitude for that program. Otherwise, apply to the stronger program.

I would say that without the SAT, you might fare a somewhat better chance at Northeastern.

For BU, I would say that your grade matches with it if you apply ED2. You are likely to get accepted (80%), other possibilities maybe waitlisted(15%). I will be so surprised if you get rejected from BU.

@kcasssuu does this apply to questrom as well?

@mon219 Yes, it is a little harder for you to be accepted, but I don’t think you will get a direct rejection.

hi @kcasssuu @HRS1861 I’m getting an LOR from one of the marketing professors at Northeastern. How helpful do you think that would be?

@mon219 Does this professor know you well? Do you know what he/she will write?

yes, he taught me marketing in a course I took this summer and he said that "I’m a great student."and I really really really doubt he’ll write anything bad @kcasssuu

@mon219 I understand your feeling. However, you only send additional recommendations from those who know you well. I am not sure how the AO will review a letter from a professor who only knew you through summer.

Just send it, it may not enhance your profile but it won’t hurt.

I’m still confused, since both Questrom and COM offer marketing and COM is easier to get into and my application shows enough interest in marketing and advertising, should I just change the course I’m applying for? @kcasssuu
