I’m in a weird boat, missed 4 months of my junior year due to medical emergencies, all well now but my gpa shot down to a 3.3uw, had to drop two of my three ap classes. I also just moved summer before senior year from New Jersey to Georgia so I’m at a new school.
Sat weren’t the best at 1840 with three subject tests 680 math 1 660 is history and 640 literature. I stacked my senior year with ap macroeconomics ap gov app stat and ap Spanish. I have really good ecs including an intergenerational outreach program. Was a varsity athlete in baseball and crosstown try before all the medical stuff. I finished my common app and got my recommendation from old teachers and old guidance consuler and plan on applying Ed to tufts. Only hook I have is that I am multiracial (latino/black/white)
Do I have a shot? Thank you for reading!
It’s really hard to say.
Your GPA and test scores are low for Tufts. ECs might be adequate, but certainly not strong as compared to applicant pool overall.
The URM hook could change everything. Without that, I would consider your Plan B.
Everyone has a shot. You are just well behind the three point arc.
If you can bounce back academically with grades, you would at least have a reason or context to explain the dip in GPA. But the SAT is pretty low for Tufts. Have you thought about prepping and taking the ACT instead? My D’s SAT score would not have made her eligible for Tufts, but her ACT was much better and well within their range, and she was an ED1 admit. As for the URM hook, from what I read on this board, as well as otherwise anecdotally, most URM applicants are usually in the range on scores and grades, as well as the other factors. The URM hook may help where you are being considered with other equally qualified candidates and may provide an edge.
URM hook may help, but honestly, your scores and gpa are low. You would need strong essays to get in, and even then, Tufts ED1 will be a reach as the school cannot see if your grades will improve from your medical leave.
