Chance Me! ED1

<p>Please chance me for Vanderbilt's incoming freshman class!</p>

<p>I applied ED1 this year (College of Arts and Science [Communications & Political Science], second choice Peabody)
SAT: 2300 (730CR, 770M, 800W)
GPA: 4.179 (with a substantial upward trend; Freshman Yr- 3.667, Soph- 4.1, Junior- 4.68, Senior- 4.92 first quarter)
Rank: school does not rank but freshman/sophomore year pull me down. I believe I am mid-to-low top-quintile.
APs: 11 upon graduation (4 on Comparative Politics, 4 on Biology, 4 on US History)
Current Courses and First Quarter Grades:
AP Statistics (A)
AP Economics (A+)
AP Literature (B+)
AP Spanish Language (A)
AP Physics 1 (A)</p>

<p>Academic Honors:
National Honor Society
National Spanish Honor Society
Gold Award (95th+ percentile) on National Spanish Exam
National Merit Commended Scholar
AP Scholar with Honor
Honor Roll all 4 years</p>

<p>Extracurriculars:
-Yearbook Editor-in-Chief
-Internship with local magazine (write/edit/plan events)
-Internship with democrat running for the House of Representatives in my local district (interesting experience because I am a libertarian- I discussed this in my extracurricular essay; direct communication with the candidate, professional consultants, prospective campaign donors, and the voters)
-Selected by school faculty to co-author a high school advice blog that is shared between our students and those of an inner-city school (they do not have nearly as much guidance as we do at my high school)
-Writer/editor for H.S. newspaper
-H.S. Soccer (4 years)
-H.S. Lacrosse (3 years)</p>

<p>Job/Work Experience:
-Hostess/waitress/indoor manager at local country club (30-40 h/week during summer, 15-20 during school year)
-Regular babysitting jobs (Avg. 7 h/wk)</p>

<p>Volunteer/Community Service:
-Volunteer every Sunday at local Hebrew School with 1st-3rd graders. I teach them to read and write in Hebrew!
-Basketball Coach every Saturday during an 8-week season in the winter for local middle-school girls rec. team
-Other miscellaneous volunteering that wouldn't make a difference in my application</p>

<p>Teacher Recommendations: Both probably great, or else I wouldn't have asked them :)
Counselor Rec: great! I have known her since kindergarten and she has told me she cannot imagine anyone more qualified.
Additional Rec: one from the Hebrew School principal which was short and sweet, LONG one from my soccer coach which was amazing! He wrote about how I was basically only on the team because we have a no-cut program and I stink, but I trained just as hard as everyone else without the reward of playing time. He also wrote about how I volunteered early on in the season to help the coaching staff with stats which I did every game.
Interview: did not have one due to a "technical glitch in the system) :(</p>

<p>State (if domestic applicant): NJ
School Type: Small highly ranked public
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female
Income Bracket: high enough not to expect any aid</p>

<p>Thank you very much! The nerves are killing me and I would like to know if I can realistically expect anything. </p>

<p>While Vandy is now a reach for everyone you sound like the type of student Vandy is looking for and I would be shocked if you did not get accepted. You have excellent academics, EC’s, awards, community service and a job. IMHO yearbook editor is the most labor intensive leadership position in high school and you don’t get the job and selected to give other students advice unless the teachers at your school think very highly of you and your abilities. Good luck.</p>

<p>@bud123‌ thank you very much! I think that my true downfall is my GPA and, therefore, rank. My school does not offer rank (fortunately) but we do offer quintiles on our HS profile and due to my struggle of adjusting freshman and sophomore year, I am barely in the top quintile let alone top 10%. I am crossing my fingers that they notice my upward trend and how hard I worked to pick myself up! Thank you again. </p>

<p>Bump please  would really appreciate some more input. </p>

I ended up getting in @bud123 , and here I am now studying for my management class in Peabody Library. Thank you for believing in me and giving me confidence

Yay!

Congratulations!
