Chance me? (Emory, Columbia, Yale, etc.) Will chance back!

Id say in at emory/boston and most likely brown / columbia

as for the others. You have the stats, just hope some person on the adcom is rooting for ya. best of luck. Thanks for chancing

kill the sat and i’d say you’ve got a strong shot. grats on nmsf!

btw…when i visited yale, i stayed in a suite with a guy who had a legacy there and he mentioned that they really don’t do much for you anymore. he might have just been saying that to legitimize his acceptance though.
having it be a sibling is kind of a neat twist though, that will probably help i feel.
add something outstanding to your ECs if possible. or really emphasize something.

id say the lower ivies look really good for you, and you have a better shot than most at hys, but mit is a little out there. take sat iis and ace them in math and science first.

youre in for boston and emory
brown is low reach.
everywhere else is a reach, but then again, it is for everyone.

at least youre on the right track! :D

Emory - I’m not too sure about this school, but you most likely have a good chanc
Boston - In
Brown - low reach
Columbia - reach
Yale - high reach
Stanford - high reach
MIT - high reach
Harvard - high reach

You’re only a junior, right? So you have plenty of time to raise those already strong test scores
You’re in a great position so far!
Best of luck!

wow! well I’m impressed. I quite like to think (or at least hope) that legacy plays a hand, because I’m a legacy at my dream school!

Everyone says your ECs aren’t that stellar, but I have to disagree. I mean, have I seen more impressive? yes. But you gotta remember that not everybody is going to have cured cancer by the time they’re 17, and I still think yours are reasonably strong.

I hope everything works out. best of luck!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/813975-chances-schools-updated-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

ECs look weak

Emory - 60%
Boston - 90%
Brown - 20%
Columbia - 25%
Yale - 50% [legacy helps, SATs dont]
Stanford - 15%
MIT - 45% [care mostly about test scores]
Harvard

Emory-IN
Boston-Whether you apply to BU or BC, IN.
Brown-mid-reach
Columbia-In
Yale-With legacy, I’d say low-reach.
Stanford-mid-reach
MIT-With legacy, probably a low-reach.
Harvard-reach

I think legacy, regardless of whether its your sibling, parent, etc., does help you. You have very good stats and if you break 5 for your GPA, that’ll put you in a very good position. I think the best thing you can do now is involve yourself in a few more EC’s, they are a little weak. BUT, don’t involve yourself in a bunch of random ones, pick something that you’re passionate about and stick with it :)

Chance me back??
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/802006-what-my-chances-getting-into-unc.html</a></p>

First off allow me to thank you for chancing me and please let me apologize for my day late response. . .now on to your question. You obviously have amazing grades; your SAT scores are at least in the competitive range (they won’t blow anybody away but they won’t be what kill you if you don’t manage to get in); your ec’s seem to be ok but a little bit on the weak side and your awards are fairly weak. It’s tricky since you will be recieving legacy aid but will be hurt by affirmative action. You can probably pull off boston and emory fairly easily but I think you’d be hard pressed to get into HYPS or MIT. . .all in all though you seem to be in a good position. Good luck

Yes you need a ‘hook’…do some research…do something that you like doing in a different way…of course it has to be original…for MIT etc it would be helpful if that thing is science based…
P.S:I’m from India too and I’m already in the US doing my first semester…keep in touch if you can…and don’t worry …you are preparing well …you will get into a good school with good financial aid, scholarships etc etc…

thanks so much for the replies…I’m really pleasantly surprised at the feedback I’ve gotten. I will be sure to look over each comment and keep overarching themes in mind over the next year!

Hey by the way…you may consider Cornell University as well…from what I have seen it is a trifle easier to get into Cornell than most of the other ivys…its a great school nonetheless…i knew someone who got into Cornell engineering with a SAT of 2050 and 2 subject tests which were 800 each…he had no ECs,awards, etc…none at all…there are other examples as well…(including me…lol!)…so you can definitely apply there if you want to!

MIT doesn’t care about legacy. Just saying.

Boston- In (College or University? Not that it matters…)

Yale- Mid-reach (legacy may help)
Stanford- High reach

Harvard- High reach

oh okay! great info. also techfreak, I don’t want to apply to Cornell because I know someone who went there and said they hated the location? like the weather, and they said there was nothing to ever do there. they switched to another school after two years.

well that is totally up to you…i would have loved to go there inspite of excessive snow, cold etc because it is a great research institution.

emory- in
boston- in
columbia- small reach
mit harvard yale stanford- reaches

Try and get your EC/Awards up.
Other than that…

Emory, Boston: ??
Brown:med reach
Columbia:low/med reach
Yale: med reach
Stanford: med/high reach
MIT: med/high reach
Harvard: high reach

I only chance harshly because they’re mainly Ivy Ls or they’re VERY competitive (aka Stan and MIT)

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/819957-ill-chance-you-back-even-if-you-insult-me.html</a></p>

Emory-In

Boston- In

I think u might be able to get into at least a couple of the other schools you wanted if you raise your SAT scores, however I think that Harvard and Stanford would be high-reaches. Good Luck!

Your academic stats are very impressive, and your legacy status should be a great help. I see I’m not the only one despondent about a 3 in Euro =). Don’t worry though; I’m sure it’s not the end of the world. Out of curiosity, what city are you from? I’m from FL too  And you’re in JSA?!?! Hahaha, what school are you from?? I might know you lol. (PM me if you’d like). Your EC’s are broad which is nice, but perhaps you should focus on a certain passion? My $0.02  Good luck!
