I've been getting so many answers saying that my GPA is HORRIBLE!!! So I don't know where I am. I'm a kid with good SAT score but terrible GPA. Hm? I'm not really sure about myself. What do you think when you look at the following colleges.

I'm looking at
Penn State University Park,
Villanova,
Carnegie Mellon,
NYU Poly [Maybe crossing this one off. I heard the students there are cheaters and the teachers are bad]
Rutgers [Not so sure about this one]
Georgia Institute of Technology <-Mixed views. =[
Harvey Mudd
Dickinson College [I might cross this one off too.]

As you can see, I'm crossing off colleges. I don't want to go to some unknown school. I mean I would much rather go to some good brand name school like CMU and NYU. I would love that. Not to mention, I worked so hard to get my SAT score up and I REALLY don't want it to go to waste.

My dream school is CMU. Carnegie. but I think I may just be reaching at a school a little too high.

Chance me and/or recommend me others.

Lonewolf, you may want to look at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (oldest engineering school in the U.S.). It’s a peer university to CMU and slightly easier to get into. Your SATs give you a chance at RPI but your GPA is slightly low.

Thanks for the suggestion but I also do want chancing. I am also worried. Am I over reaching? I don’t know which schools are safety schools and which one are reaches.

Penn State- Safety
Drexel - Safety

NYU - Match
Villanova - Match

Georgia Institute of Technology - ???
Harvey Mudd - ???
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute - ???

Carnegie Mellon - Low-Mid Reach.

I’m also looking at
Lafayette
Union College
John Hopkins

Do you agree with this? Or am I just a little too optimistic? I feel like I’m really over reaching

I want to apply to 10 colleges and most GOOD [CMU good] college deadlines are in january.

BTW. I know my SAT IIs are terrible. That fact is the reason that I retook them in December. The scores will be better.

Your SAT II’s may come up, but not come up as much as you hope, and you have to be prepared for this fact. What is your state of residence? You don’t want to be “chanced”, yet your assessment of your chances at the schools on your list is unrealistic at best…

I “want” to be chanced. I wouldn’t be here if I knew exactly where I stand. I have no idea where I am right now. I feel like I’m very spread out. Oh. Hey. I took the December SAT subject Test. Those scores haven’t been released yet and I stated that I know my scores “WILL” be better. Of course, I’m not sending my bad scores.

LoneWolf, I would say that R.P.I. and Gatech are high matches to low reaches for you. I say that mainly because the acceptance rate is dropping at both of those schools. R.P.I. should be in the low 30% range for this year.

You are a competitive candidate for them so I think its worth applying. Both world class engineering schools.

^Thank you. I really do appreciate it. I have a somewhat better clue to where I stand now than I did before. Of course, I’m still not sure if I’m over reaching. My friend who has a 4.0 GPA is using Penn State and Drexel as his dream schools. He didn’t get a good SAT score. So I guess I’m just a bit worried.

Penn State- Safety
Drexel - Safety

NYU - Match
Villanova - Match

Georgia Institute of Technology - Low Reach
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute - Low Reach

Carnegie Mellon - Low-Mid Reach.

Lafayette - ???
Union College - ???
John Hopkins - ???

To be honest man your gpa is pretty low, your SAT is kinda just average, and your SAT 2s are ok and you don’t have too many ecs so while your good for schools like GA tech and Rennasler and Drexel I’m not so sure bout john hopkins and carnegie

^Thats pretty odd of you to say that. I’ve know that my GPA is pretty darn low but… my SATs are average? Strange. Your standards pretty high?

My SATs are average and my SAT 2s are okay? I thought it was the other way around. My SAT 2s are AWFUL!!! Yeah. I kind of knew my profile wasn’t as good as others applying to Carnegie Mellon. I’m crossing off John Hopkins. Too difficult to get in. I thought my ECs were my weakest points. Now I have no idea where I stand for Carnegie Mellon or the other colleges.

WHAT I DO FIND ODD THOUGH. Why is it that people are commenting on my low GPA? I checked Collegeboard and 13% of the students had a GPA in my range. So not everyone who gets accepted always has a perfect score or a perfect GPA. I don’t know man. I still do have a chance though, even if its a slim chance.

I don’t know if this would make a difference but I have an UW GPA of 5.77.

Penn State- Safety
Drexel - Safety

NYU - Match
Villanova - Match

Georgia Institute of Technology - Low Reach
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute - Low Reach

Carnegie Mellon - ??? Mid-High Reach?
Lafayette - ??? Low Reach?
Union College - ??? Match?

Thanks for evaluating. I do appreciate an honest answer.
