Nigerian-American, 10th grade female from Tennessee
I applied to schools last year through A Better Chance, which is specifically for helping students of color get into prep schools. i was waitlisted at Exeter, SPS, Cate, and Asheville. Accepted at Webb School in Bell Buckle, TN but couldn't go because i didn't get enough FA.

My grades from freshman year are as follows:
AP World History-98 A
Adv. Hon. Algebra I-100 A
Adv. Hon. Biology-99 A
Adv. Hon. English I-99 A
Lifetime Wellness (PE)- A
Theatre Arts I-100 A

These were the highest level classes I was allowed to take as a freshman, but they weren't very challenging, so it was very easy to maintain these grades. I ranked 1 out of 548 students in the freshman class.

My SSAT scored were pretty terrible. i didn't have a prep book or anything, and im terrible at math (like i said, math isnt hard at my school, so thats why i had a 100), so i got a 71%. i think it was a 90% in verbal, 80 something % in reading, and a 20 something % in math. I did, however, get a prep book this year, so i should do MUCH better.

for this year, i don't know my grades yet but here are the classes im taking:
Adv. Hon. Chemistry
Adv. Hon. English II
Adv. Hon. Geometry
Personal Finance
Health Science Ed. (part of a pathway thingy at my school)
Music Theory
Spanish I

still taking the highest level classes i'm allowed to take. I have a specific interest in science, btw, so that's something to consider. as for EC's, wouldn't say i have anything too fancy. I mostly just do clubs and stuff im interested in outside of school.

here's a nice little list for ya:

Theatre- 1 show (my 1st one) freshman year, 1 this year. i'm REALLY into theatre actually, big passion of mine, definitely want to pursue it at exeter
Science Olympiad- 2 years. you have to be invited to be on the team
Baritone/Euphonium-5 years. All of middle school till now, in the school concert band
ARK Ministries- 1 year. I helped get this youth group started at my church. we got shirts and everything B)
Church Choir- 5 years, Alto, another big passion
Volleyball-3 years. I may or may not continue playing, i'm not entirely sure if i would like to continue it or get into a different sport. lots of different sports in the north that arent offered in the south, so i wanna be open
First Priority-2 years. Christian fellowiship club at school
International Thespian Society-1 year. just got invited! you have to be in at least 2 shows
Community service- i don't have that many hours right now, but i'm about to start something pretty steady. like a once-twice a week type thing. i REALLY like volunteering, it's really fun and i would say it's another passion. even though i haven't done much, i would jump at any and every Com. Service opprotunity at a boarding school

one concern that i have is the fact that im applying for 11th grade. i have heard that it's very hard to get into a school for 11th grade. i was hoping that for SPS and exeter, i would have kind of an increased chance because i was waitlisted before, and now that im reapplying, maybe they will see my perseverance and be more likely to accept me. which might negate the competitiveness for 11th grade admission. at least for me anyway. for the other HADES schools, im sure it will still be difficult.

its really hard to completely convey myself as an applicant over this forum, but i guess i just want to know, if my grades are good, if i get >90% on the SSAT, and if i nail all essays, recs, and interviews, am i atleast, kinda in the running? like do i fit the profile? btw, i need full financial aid. i know that matters.

just rate my grades and my EC's i guess. this had been really long. okay thanks.
