Any idea how much my 1st semester senior grades will affect me?
Thanks so much for reading!

If your essays and recs are solid, I think you have an excellent chance.
Good luck.

Seriously, excellent chance!
Unlike Cornell, Northwestern is kind of more predictable in whether you get in or not. Last year, everyone who had an average of 94 and up and applied got in.

^Thanks! I hope so ((: My senior grades are slacking a bit relative to the years before. Does anyone think this would become a huge tipping point in this scenario? My first semester grades are pretty much set in stone at this point. Honest opinions appreciated.

TYVM again!

bumpitybump~

bump 10char

last time bumping up in case someone has any input (:

Averby, are you sure about that? Where are you getting that data?

To the OP: It looks like you have a good shot to me. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that grading scale before, though, where an A+ is a 4.0 and an A is a 3.8. Sorry to go off-topic, but is that very common?

Anyway, I would think that you have a good chance as long as your recs and essays are good.

Now, where’s my free pencil? Kind of ironic that you’re bribing us with pencils when your username is ballpointpen, but whatever. ;)

Hmmm, your ec’s seem pretty good. Not mind-blowing, but at least as good as most other applicants. Your scores are also pretty good (in case you’re worrying, the 790 in chinese won’t hurt you, that’s only 1 missed question which can happen to anyone). The main problem is your gpa, especially considering your demographics. While it’s overwhelmingly bad, considering you’re asian, from a competitive school and area, wealthy family, and going into science/math (guessing from your extracurriculars) while getting B’s in those areas, it’s looks pretty shoddy. If your recs are good, I’d recommend two things:

  1. Getting those grades up. Even if it seems impossible, try especially since they’re number 1 in considerations. Do whatever it takes, eg. extra-credit participating a lot in class so that your teacher favorites you and bumps it up, etc.
  2. Working on your essays. Not sure how good they are, but the general trend with asians applying to science or math is that their essays are kinda dry, not because they can’t write, but because they can’t write about themselves.
I’d say a decent chance if you follow the advice.

^Thanks, I’ll try my best to get my senior grades up to where they should be! I think my essays should be decent, but I will continue to edit them as the deadline approaches. Thanks again for the frank responses (:

^^It’s sort of a weird grading system, but I think it is to ensure that not everyone ends up with a 4.0 or 3.99 :P

Bumpity bump~
