I am that kid with high SAT scores and low grades. Although I consider myself relatively intelligent, I am worried that colleges will see a bad gpa and immediately reject me. Here are my statistics.

I go to a highly regarded high school in new england with very few APs but a lot of advanced schedules. I am taking one of the three AP's, and all of the advanced courses which are just as hard.

SAT 2:
Math 2c: 750
US history: 730
Literature: 720
world history: 710
Physics: 700

extracurriculars: advisory board for public library (2 hours a week), very good artist (3 hours a week), pretty good dancer (3 hours a week), volunteer at homeless shelter (2 hours a week), member of environment club (1 hour a week).

trimester in foreign country study abroad program
summer taking college level classes in math and economics
summer course in Java programming language

so thanks for actually reading that, what are my chances at...

Cornell:

U. Maryland:

you have a definite shot at BU and they would probably offer you money
umm it looks like you could get into: cornell, brandeis, nyu,gw, rochester, emory, and maryland
maybe accept/waitlist to northwestern, hopkins, carnegie mellon, washu
hope this helps and good luck!

I know it can’t be helped now, but your gpa is a real bummer. the upward trend is sorta nice I guess (as opposed to a downward one, or a consistently low one). also, your ECs aren’t that great. put some more time into them. SATs are fine, good even. Those certainly won’t keep you out.

thanks for being honest, so do you think cornell is a huge reach, or do you think with really good teacher recs and a pretty good essay i have an ok shot?

ummm, dont really feel like answering that, but i am not taking two of the APs that are offered so i feel like that is a slight disadvantage. anyway, can someone copy and paste the list of colleges and write match or reach or safety next to the names? i just want a broad idea of where i might be able to get in.

cornell is the easiest ivy to get into but one of the hardest to get in
if you work your gpa to be higher, you should get it
all colleges look at everything not just the gpa
so work on your ECs too do more com service and stuff

Cornell:imma say this is a reach …but a possibility
Columbia:same as Cornell
U Penn:reach-prob not gonna happen
U. Chicago: low reach
Northwestern: higher reach
Wash U: high match
Wesleyan:match(they would actually listen to your attempts to explain the GPA)
Hopkins:…reach…but not so sure
Brandeis:in
Tufts:in
Carnegie Mellon: i’d say in, but they always surprise me
Vanderbilt: match
Emory:match
Mcgill:reach
NYU:match to reach
Rochester:IDK
G.W:safety
B.U:safety
U. Maryland:IDK

hope this helps…try to get more EC’s…yours are…well…really weak
