<p>Perhaps, but probably not. For the most part, people post chance threads for top schools because they’re legitimately curious about whether not they have a chance at all. As mostly rising seniors, we’re not all masters of the college admissions process yet, so how do we know if we should even bother applying to a school like Princeton? For example, I posted a chance thread for Harvard, Yale, and Brown (among non top-20 schools), and I didn’t make it in order to boost my ego; I actually didn’t know whether my courseload, ECs, and scores were good enough to warrant applying to those schools at all. </p>
<p>Therefore, for Ivy chance threads and the like, there are 3 possible responses one can give:
- I wouldn’t recommend applying here, as your stats/ECs/etc. don’t quite reach the target range for that school.
- This school is a very high reach for you, but with some amazing essays/recs/etc., you could still possibly get in.
- Your profile looks great–you have just as high a chance at admission as any other highly competitive applicant. </p>
