GPA: Freshman year 3.0 (4 honors classes)
Sophomore year 3.6 (3 honors classes)
Junior year 3.82 (3 honors classes, 2 APs)
Senior year TBD (4 APs, 1 honors class)

EC's: Founded and run a nonprofit that will gross 10-20K this year. I have one employee and I put around eight hours weekly of work into it.
News columnist for several county papers, mostly freelance but paid at one. The biggest one has a 90k circulation.
Won a freedom of information court battle on my own initiative, without a lawyer. Not a landmark case but important in shaping NJ's FOI debate

Mundane EC's: Founder and president of Debate team, President of Business club, Senior class treasurer, XC/Track JV runner.

Hooks: I have a couple baby hooks. A professor said he would recommend me after talking with me. I'm also a dual citizen.

I don’t get the part where you put 8 hours of work into your non profit that grosses 10-20K this year. If the 8 hours total was a typo then you are letting your game slip. Plus no one knows what the non-profit is.

No one really cares these days about writing for papers or blogs. At least I don’t think so.

I meant 8 hours weekly. My bad. It donates money to an animal shelter, but the nifty thing is that its set up like a business. We don’t beg people for money, we give them a service and then give that money away.

I disagree. I think writing for medium sized newspapers are important. Likewise, writing for huffpost blog or something similar is a moderate deal for colleges.

Your Extracurriculars are pretty strong, and I think you can make some great essays out of them. SAT’s are pretty good, GPA is a bit low. You do show improvement, though, and you clearly have major time-consuming EC’s, so I think you have a good chance.

Hm… 3.0 GPA due to honors classes MIGHT hurt you. However, both your SAT score and ECs are great! Your EC, especially, is very unique imo. I think its either Low Reach or Reach.

Your GPA will hold you back but your ECs are definitely above average, even for a Princeton applicant! SAT is good too. If you write outstanding essays, your giving yourself a solid chance, but for now, Reach.

Although your freshman GPA is on the low side, you definitely have an upward trend and that is something colleges take into consideration. Your SAT is on par and you do have great ECs (it is quite impressive that you were able to win a legal battle on your own, and colleges probably don’t see that very often).

I’d say Princeton would be still be a reach, as it is for everyone. However, if you apply SCEA I do think that it would better your chances, as it shows your sincere interest in the school. It’d also help to know what your intended major is :)

You’re GPA is pretty low for an Ivy League school, but I think your nonprofit will help increase your chances, esp if you’re thinking of a business major
Do SCEA to help!

Overall,
It’s a reach, but it is for everyone, you never know with schools like that

Your SAT score is definitely their average, which is both a good and bad thing. Your EC with your non profit is definitely what Ivy’s like Princeton like to see, so that’s a good addition. Be sure to score well on your future SAT 2s and you’ll have a good shot! Maybe early application will help if you’re set on Princeton!
