Hello, I’m a junior in high school who’s planning on applying to the Barrett Honors College next year, and I was hoping that someone with experience regarding that school or a similar honors college could tell me my chances of getting in with these stats-
UW GPA: 3.7
W GPA: 4.13
Class Rank: 83.8%
SAT: 1280
ACT: 31
PSAT: 1310
EC’s:
•NASA Engineering Club member
•FFA member
-Competed in Veterinary Science, won second in my district
•Red Cross member
•HOSA member (Health Occupations Students of America)
Volunteering:
•Animal Rescue - 12 hours
•Dairy Farm - 10 hours
•Race Committee (Basically I assisted in setting up and guiding people along a cross country racing course.) - 11.5 hours
Work Experience:
•Roughly 300 hours working as a clerk at my dad’s business
•32 hours of paid animal care taking
A bit more about me:
I’ve taken 6 honors classes so far and I’m planning on taking two more next year, I’ve taken 4 AP classes thus far and plan on taking one more next year, and lastly I’ve taken one IB class. I’m currently enrolled in a program that allows me to become a certified veterinary assistant by the time I graduate high school, which is a two year long course (I started it this year, finishing it next year). I was severely disappointed when I received my SAT scores a while back, as they didn’t quite match my PSATs, and I’ll be retaking them in a few weeks and hopefully meeting or exceeding that score. Neither of my parents attended college, so I’d be a first generation college student. I plan on really focusing on my volunteering hours this summer, and look forward to getting about 60 more hours or so of animal-related volunteer experience. I also just applied to my school’s National Honors Society, and I’ll find out in a few days if I was accepted or not.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and please offer advice on how to better my chances of getting in if you know of any. I would really like to be accepted into the Honors College, as I think it would greatly help in my endeavors to later go on to get my DVM at an acclaimed school.
Thanks again!
